Job Description: Safety, Health, Environment & Operations ManagerPosition OverviewThe Safety, Health, Environment & Operations (SHEO) Manager is responsible for driving a culture of safety, ensuring environmental compliance, monitoring health parameters, and supporting operational excellence. The role involves strategic planning, training, audits, administration, stakeholder coordination, and project management to enhance workplace safety, environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and team development.
Key Responsibilities1. SafetyDevelop and implement HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, SOPs, and training documents.
Prepare SOPs/Task lists for operations & maintenance covering safety standards.
Lead safety drives: Near Miss reporting, Unsafe Acts/Conditions monitoring, Toolbox Talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, Safety Themes, 5S initiatives.
Organize training and refresher programs: Basic Safety, Mass Awareness, Behavior-Based Safety (BBS).
Manage safety audits – internal, external, and legal compliance.
Conduct incident analysis and develop corrective action plans with compliance reporting.
Promote safety engagement activities: Safety Week, Competitions, Safety Officer of the Month, etc.
Implement engineering controls and system modifications for enhanced safety.
Monitor and review safety performance with stakeholders.
Track and control safety-related costs.
2. EnvironmentImplement engineering and system modifications for environmental compliance.
Monitor environmental performance parameters to ensure adherence to norms.
Maintain and inspect environment-related equipment/systems.
Conduct awareness and refresher sessions for employees on environmental practices.
Ensure legal and statutory environmental compliance.
3. HealthOversee health monitoring programs for engineers, associates, and staff.
4. OperationsPlan and execute shutdown activities effectively and safely.
5. Administration & Team DevelopmentMaintain documentation: Logbooks, MIS, Safety/Environment/Health records, Training records, Material Management.
Develop team-building and talent pool programs.
Design & implement technical training modules (short-term & long-term).
Execute refresher training and promote multiskilling initiatives.
Drive Business Excellence projects: QC, Six Sigma, FMEA, Lean, 5S.
Lead planning, troubleshooting, and analysis for continuous improvement.
Mentor and coach employees to build leadership, planning, analytical, and soft skills.
Conduct performance evaluation and feedback sessions.
Develop communication and presentation skills across teams.
Manage audits (ISO, Safety, Quality, TS, Customer).
Handle materials & contract management including cost monitoring.
Ensure organizational branding and uphold policies on ethics, values, and workplace safety.
6. Project ManagementIdentify, prioritize, and execute visionary projects.
Lead procurement activities (PRs, SPRs, technical discussions, TRs, ordering).
Oversee project execution: design, engineering, material receipt, fabrication, erection, trials, and handover.
Coordinate with project teams to ensure timely execution.
7. CoordinationCollaborate with stakeholders: DCM, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contracts, Stores, Internal Suppliers, Internal Customers, Support Services, Auditors, and Parent Company teams.
Ensure effective demand-supply management, quality performance, inventory control, and by-product management.
Coordinate ISO audits and manage cost control for products.
Engage with finance, taxation, and internal audit teams.
Qualifications & SkillsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related discipline). A Master’s in Safety/Environment/Business Excellence is an advantage.
Certifications: NEBOSH, ISO Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt preferred.
Experience: 10+ years in Safety, Environment, Health, and Operations Management within heavy industry/manufacturing.
Skills:
