Job Description – Safety, Health, Environment & Operations ManagerPosition OverviewThe Safety, Health, Environment & Operations (SHEO) Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring organizational policies and practices that promote safe operations, environmental compliance, employee well-being, efficient administration, and effective project execution. The role involves close coordination with internal and external stakeholders, compliance management, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through leadership and team engagement. Key Responsibilities1. Safety ManagementDevelop, review, and implement HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, and safety training documentation. Establish SOPs and task lists for operation and maintenance activities with a focus on safety. Drive safety initiatives including Near Miss/Unsafe Act reporting, Toolbox Talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, Safety Campaigns, and 5S implementation. Conduct basic and refresher safety training, awareness programs, and Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) initiatives. Manage internal/external safety audits, inspections, and ensure legal compliance. Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. Organize and lead safety-related team engagement activities such as Safety Week, competitions, and recognition programs. Introduce innovative approaches to sustain safety culture—cross audits, safety indices, creative campaigns, and recognition systems. Monitor and review safety performance with stakeholders and manage safety-related costs. 2. Environmental ManagementImplement engineering and operational controls to ensure environmental compliance. Monitor environmental performance parameters and ensure adherence to permissible norms. Maintain and monitor environmental equipment and systems through inspections, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance. Conduct environment awareness sessions and refresher training for stakeholders. Ensure compliance with all environmental legal requirements. 3. Health ManagementOversee health monitoring programs for engineers, associates, and relevant stakeholders. Drive health-related initiatives and awareness campaigns to promote employee well-being. 4. OperationsPlan and execute plant/machine shutdowns effectively with minimal downtime. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure operational excellence. 5. Administration & LeadershipMaintain and update documentation: logbooks, MIS, training records, and material management systems. Develop and implement technical training modules (short-term & long-term) for upskilling and multiskilling employees. Execute refresher training plans, coaching, mentoring, and talent pool development programs. Actively participate in Business Excellence initiatives such as QC Projects, Six Sigma, FMEA, Lean, and 5S. Lead analysis, planning, and troubleshooting activities. Drive organizational culture initiatives including engagement events, policy awareness, and branding activities. Manage audits (ISO, Safety, Quality, TS, Customer) and ensure compliance. Oversee materials and contract management, including cost monitoring and optimization. Promote leadership development, communication, teamwork, and soft skills training. Implement performance evaluation systems and provide constructive feedback. 6. Project ManagementIdentify and prioritize visionary projects aligned with business strategy. Prepare and manage PRs & SPRs, technical reviews, vendor discussions, and ordering processes. Lead execution of internal projects from design, material receipt, fabrication, erection, trials, and commissioning into operations. Coordinate and monitor projects executed by central/project teams. 7. Cross-Functional CoordinationCollaborate with DCM, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contracts, Stores, and other support functions. Manage stakeholder relationships with internal suppliers, customers, auditors, and external agencies. Ensure effective communication with central mechanical maintenance, machine shop, safety, fire, and security teams. Support ISO audits, business excellence reviews, and cost optimization initiatives. Liaise with finance, taxation, and internal auditors to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy. Qualifications & SkillsBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Safety, or related field). Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 10–15 years of experience in Safety, Health, Environment, and Operations in a manufacturing/industrial setup. Certified in Safety/Environment Management (NEBOSH/IOSH or equivalent). Strong knowledge of safety regulations, ISO standards, and environmental compliance. Proven leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities. Skilled in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Business Excellence frameworks. Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in SAP PM, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Project Management tools.
