Job Description: Safety, Health, Environment & Operations ManagerPosition OverviewThe Safety, Health, Environment & Operations (SHEO) Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and excellence across Safety, Health, Environment, Operations, Administration, Project Management, and Cross-Functional Coordination. The role demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to engage stakeholders to drive a culture of safety, sustainability, efficiency, and innovation. Key Responsibilities1. SafetyDevelop and maintain HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, and training documentation. Prepare SOPs/Task Lists covering operation and maintenance with a safety-first approach. Lead safety drives including Near Miss reporting, Unsafe Acts/Conditions, Toolbox Talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, Tabletop Exercises, and 5S implementation. Conduct regular safety and refresher trainings: Basic Safety, Mass Awareness, BBS, etc. Manage internal, external, and legal audits ensuring 100% compliance. Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions. Drive employee engagement through Safety Week/Month celebrations, competitions, and team-building initiatives. Introduce creative programs to sustain safety culture (cross-audits, PSE, One Day Safety Officer, HSE Index, Rewards & Recognition). Implement engineering controls and upgrades to improve workplace safety. Review safety performance with stakeholders and monitor safety costs. 2. EnvironmentImplement engineering controls and modifications to enhance environmental safety. Monitor environmental parameters and ensure compliance with permissible norms. Maintain environmental equipment and systems through inspections, maintenance, and housekeeping. Conduct training and awareness sessions for stakeholders. Ensure adherence to all environmental legal compliances. 3. HealthMonitor and improve health standards for engineers, associates, and the workforce. Facilitate periodic health check-ups and wellness programs. 4. OperationsPlan, manage, and execute plant shutdowns efficiently. Support continuous operations while minimizing downtime. 5. Administration & People DevelopmentMaintain documentation including logbooks, MIS, safety, training records, and material management. Build a talent pipeline through structured training programs (3/8/30 days, refresher modules, multi-skilling). Promote Business Excellence through QC projects, Six Sigma, Lean, and FMEA. Develop employees’ technical, analytical, and leadership skills via coaching, mentoring, and handholding. Oversee contract & material management, cost monitoring, and audit compliance. Strengthen organizational branding, stakeholder communication, and adherence to ethical policies. Drive employee engagement through events, functions, and performance recognition. 6. Project ManagementPrepare visionary project lists and prioritize based on business needs. Execute internal projects: design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, trials, and commissioning. Collaborate with the project team for large-scale initiatives ensuring timely delivery and compliance. 7. CoordinationAct as a liaison with cross-functional teams: DCM, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contracts, Stores, Auditors, Central Services, and Parent Company. Manage demand-supply planning, quality assurance, supplier coordination, and customer requirements. Coordinate with safety, environment, fire, and security advisory teams. Support ISO, safety, and quality audits through structured planning and execution. Partner with finance, taxation, and costing teams for budget adherence and cost optimization. Qualifications & SkillsBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical/Metallurgy preferred). Additional certifications in Safety, Environment, Six Sigma, or Project Management are desirable. 10–15 years of experience in Safety, Health, Environment, and Plant Operations in heavy industries/steel/power sectors. Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, ISO standards, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies. Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills. Proficiency in SAP PM Module, MS Office, Microsoft Project, and cloud-based systems. Key CompetenciesLeadership & Strategic Thinking – ability to build and guide teams.
