Job Description: HSE & Operations ManagerPosition OverviewThe HSE & Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace through effective management of Safety, Environment, and Health (SHE) initiatives. The role also encompasses responsibilities in Operations, Administration, Project Management, and Cross-functional Coordination, driving compliance, continuous improvement, and business excellence.
Key Responsibilities1. SafetyDevelop, implement, and review HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, and training documentation.
Prepare and implement SOPs/Task lists for safe operation and maintenance activities.
Drive safety initiatives: Near Miss reporting, Unsafe Act/Condition reporting, Toolbox Talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, Tabletop Exercises, Safety Campaigns, 5S, etc.
Organize training & refresher programs: Basic Safety, Behavior-Based Safety (BBS), and Mass Awareness sessions.
Manage internal, external, and statutory safety audits to ensure compliance.
Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective action plans.
Engage teams through Safety Week/Month, competitions (poem, slogan, poster, quiz, skit), and awareness campaigns.
Promote creativity in safety culture: cross-audits, HSE Index, recognition programs, etc.
Implement engineering safety improvements (poka-yoke, equipment modification/upgradation).
Review safety KPIs with stakeholders and monitor safety costs.
2. EnvironmentImplement engineering and system upgrades to reduce environmental impact.
Monitor environmental performance parameters to ensure compliance with legal and corporate standards.
Ensure proper maintenance, inspection, and housekeeping of environmental systems.
Conduct environment awareness programs and training sessions.
Manage legal compliance and documentation related to environmental norms.
3. HealthOversee health monitoring programs for engineers and associates.
Coordinate with occupational health services for preventive and periodic health check-ups.
4. OperationsPlan, coordinate, and execute plant shutdowns efficiently and safely.
5. Administration & People DevelopmentMaintain documentation: Logbooks, MIS, safety/environment/health/training records, and material management.
Develop training modules (short-term and long-term) and ensure implementation.
Conduct refresher training, promote multi-skilling, and overlap of roles.
Drive Business Excellence initiatives: Six Sigma, QC projects, FMEA, Lean, CTR, and 5S.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership development for the team.
Strengthen team building through engagement, festivals, sports, and cultural events.
Conduct performance evaluation and provide constructive feedback.
Ensure workforce capability in SAP PM Module, MS Office, Cloud Systems, and digital tools.
Manage materials, contracts, cost control, and audit compliance (ISO, Safety, Quality, TS, Customer).
Promote organizational branding, value systems, ethics, and workplace policies.
6. Project ManagementIdentify and prioritize projects through situation-based analysis.
Lead execution: PRs, SPRs, technical discussions, ordering, fabrication, erection, trials, and commissioning.
Coordinate with the project team for smooth execution and transition to operations.
7. CoordinationCollaborate with cross-functional teams: DCM, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contracts, Stores, Suppliers, Customers, Auditors, and Parent Company.
Manage demand-supply planning, quality improvement, inventory, and service provider engagement.
Support business excellence, ISO audits, costing, finance, and taxation compliance.
Qualifications & SkillsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Production/Industrial). Master’s preferred.
Certifications in Safety/Environment/Health (NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO, etc.) preferred.
10+ years of experience in HSE, Operations, and Project/Administration in a manufacturing/industrial setup.
Strong knowledge of Safety, Environmental, Health laws, and compliance requirements.
Proven leadership, coaching, and mentoring ability.
Proficiency in SAP PM, MS Office, and project management tools.
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
