Position Summary
Responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and support of the global Enterprise Manufacturing Execution Systems (EMES) solution that is utilized worldwide across the digital manufacturing network to produce medicine. The role requires strong expertise in
modern microservices architecture, hybrid cloud platforms, and event-driven systems
to deliver scalable, reliable, and high-performance digital manufacturing solutions.
Scope
The EMES core platform, components, interfaces, and tools, along with any customizations supporting digital manufacturing systems and operations, including but not limited to

Key Responsibilities
- Lead design, development, and deployment of Python FastAPI-based microservices running in Docker containers and orchestrated with Kubernetes (EKS/ECS).
- Architect and deliver event-driven, asynchronous services and RESTful APIs, leveraging Kafka for distributed communication across global manufacturing systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement multi-tenant SaaS solutions on cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred, Azure/GCP a plus).
- Define and implement Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles, system design patterns, and reusable components with strong focus on security, observability, and performance optimization.
- Manage end-to-end solution architecture, including frontend (React/Angular), backend services, relational and non-relational databases (SQL, NoSQL, PL/SQL).
- Implement caching, queuing, and scaling strategies using Redis, Hazelcast, or similar technologies.
- Drive cloud adoption and migration of legacy on-premises MES systems to hybrid environments (on-premise + AWS Cloud).
- Partner with QA and DevOps to design comprehensive automated test suites, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/Jenkins/ArgoCD), GitOps workflows, and performance monitoring dashboards.
- Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical validation standards (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11) while enabling modern DevOps and Agile practices.
- Mentor junior engineers, review code, and enforce clean code, test-driven development (TDD), behavior-driven development (BDD), and software craftsmanship practices.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies (e.g., GraphQL, gRPC, service mesh like Istio/Linkerd, serverless architectures, AI/ML for manufacturing optimization, edge computing).
- Apply API Gateway, service registry, and service discovery mechanisms for microservices management.
- Implement container security, secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), and policy enforcement (OPA, Kyverno).
- Document and communicate architectural decisions, API contracts, and integration points with stakeholders.
- Actively contribute to Agile/SCRUM ceremonies and drive continuous improvement across engineering teams.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 10-12 years of experience in software development, with at least 5+ years in microservices architecture and cloud-native/hybrid cloud applications.
- Hands-on expertise with Python 3.x, FastAPI framework, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS/ECS).
- Strong experience in building RESTful APIs, asynchronous services, and Kafka-based event streaming platforms.
- Proficiency in cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred), including IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- Deep understanding of 12-factor app principles, distributed system design, CQRS and event sourcing patterns.
- Solid experience with SQL/PLSQL and exposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra).
- Working knowledge of modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD), GitOps practices, and container registries.
- Strong knowledge of observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK stack, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger/Zipkin for distributed tracing).
- Proficiency in test-driven development (pytest, unittest, integration testing) and performance/load testing (Locust, JMeter).
- Familiarity with API gateways (Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway) and service mesh technologies.
- Solid understanding of security best practices (OAuth2.0, JWT, SSO, RBAC, TLS/SSL, Zero Trust Architecture).
- Knowledge of secrets management tools (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager) and container security practices.
Desirable Skills & Attributes
- Experience with serverless computing (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).
- Exposure to event-driven frameworks (Apache Flink, Spark Streaming) for real-time analytics.
- Experience with edge computing solutions for near-machine MES integration.
- Understanding of data streaming and integration platforms (Debezium, Confluent).
- Experience with policy as code (OPA, Kyverno) and compliance automation.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process automation, MES platforms, and pharmaceutical compliance.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and drive initiatives in cross-functional, global teams.
