Job Summary

Performance Management:

  • Explains the Performance Management framework and tools to new joiners including customer and product segmentation, management accounting principles, process and rationale for management reallocations, forecast and budget process.
  • Assesses impact within the role of any changes in management accounting principles.
  • Prepares performance management reports and performs basic analysis.
  • Identifies situations where the appropriate management accounting reporting policy should be applied or where it has been applied incorrectly.
  • Recognizes good business performance from poorer performance using an objective data driven approach.
  • Implements data controls verifying the integrity of reporting schedules with the General Ledger and associated Transaction Processing systems

Influencing and Advisory

  • Provides cost insights and recommendations in a way that supports decision-making and encourages action.
  • Builds strong working relationships with business leads and cross-functionable teams, understanding their priorities and shaping messages to show how cost decisions impact delivery. Advises on cost trade-offs-such as whether to invest in new software or extend existing platforms-backed by financial analysis and clear communication.
  • Uses influencing technique and relationship building to gain buy-in, resolve conflicts etc for cost-saving initiatives or tighter cost controls without formal authority.
  • Example: Works with marketing and compliance to challenge and reduce discretionary spend during a cost-tightening phase, offering alternative approaches to achieve business goals within reduced funding envelopes

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Prepares and analyses departmental cost plans in collaboration with business and functional leads, ensuring alignment to strategic goals and corporate budget targets.
  • Highlights key trends, cost pressures, and risks, and challenges underlying assumptions in proposed spend. Works with cost centre owners to shape realistic and deliverable plans that reflect both operational needs and cost efficiency.
  • Communicates how changes in strategy (e.g. automation, cloud migration) impact future cost profiles and helps adjust plans accordingly.
  • Example: Partners with the technology leadership team to reshape next year's cost plan in response to a shift toward cloud services, identifying legacy infrastructure savings and modelling transitional cost impacts over time.

Financial Analysis

  • Assesses the context, rationale and impact of movements in the reporting environment / market and is able to articulate these changes (i.e. impact on operations and/or systems) both to Finance colleagues as well as business/ function stakeholders.
  • Reviews reporting packs and specialized schedules to draw connections among different financial and non-financial indicators / ratios / reports/ metrics to derive holistic perspective of the Bank's and/or clients' financial performance, financial state, the effectiveness of its use of working capital and its creditworthiness
  • Assumes ownership of the end-to-end reporting process, taking responsibility for coordination between units within Finance to ensure delivery of the reporting requirements.
  • Plays an integral part in any re-engineering reporting process with a mindset for maximizing efficiency and maintaining standardised data quality and integrity.
  • Consults others on identifying, tracing, and correcting errors in financial reports.
  • Review and ensures key balance sheet metrics are reported consistently across different regulatory and internal reporting schedules (cross-report validation, accuracy and control).

Commercial Evaluation

  • Assesses cost proposals and internal initiatives with a focus on financial value and trade-offs.
  • Builds financial models to compare options and quantify outcomes using structured frameworks.
  • Collaborates with business units to understand operational needs and ensures financial considerations are incorporated early in decision-making.
  • Identifies risks and opportunities in proposals and provides clear summaries that help influence decisions.
  • Can challenge inputs or assumptions constructively and recommend alternative approaches.
Example: Works with operations and IT to evaluate whether to automate a high-volume manual process, including modelling upfront technology investment, expected headcount reduction, and sensitivity to transaction volumes
