Job Description

Position Overview:


The Project Head – Renewable Energy (IPP Vertical) will be responsible for leading the end-to-end development, execution, and delivery of renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hybrid, BESS, and Transmission lines, etc.) within the company’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio.


This role will support the EPC vertical, ensuring seamless project execution, cost efficiency, and adherence to timelines, quality, and compliance standards.


The role demands a strategic leader with deep technical knowledge, strong stakeholder management skills, and a proven track record in large-scale renewable energy project delivery.


Key Responsibilities:


Project Management & Execution

  • Lead complete lifecycle management of IPP projects from concept to commissioning and handover to operations.
  • Develop and manage project execution strategies, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory approvals, grid connection requirements, and environmental standards.
  • Oversee project quality, safety, and sustainability objectives.
  • Coordinate with land, design, and permitting teams to resolve pre-construction bottlenecks.
  • Ensure strict adherence to PPA, EPC, O&M and other project agreements, safety, quality, environmental and ESG standards.
  • Ensures the Project is executed according to PPA/ EPC agreements, with the with highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, quality, within schedule and budget.


EPC Vertical Oversight (Interim)

  • Manage and support EPC engineering, procurement, and construction functions until a permanent EPC head is appointed.
  • Ensure EPC deliverables meet the budgeted/projected costs, quality, and schedules of commitments.
  • Resolve inter-departmental execution bottlenecks between EPC and IPP verticals.


Engineering & Technical Oversight

  • Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure design optimization for cost efficiency, performance, and reliability.
  • Oversee integration of BESS systems with solar and wind power plants, ensuring grid compliance.


Team Management & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary project team (engineering, procurement, construction, contracts, QA/QC, HSE) and build a delivery-first culture.
  • Allocate resources effectively across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Establish performance metrics and accountability frameworks.


Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Collaborate with Contracts & Procurement teams in vendor evaluation, prequalification, and contract governance.
  • Provide technical inputs and risk assessment to ensure project-specific risks (performance guarantees, liquidated damages, warranties, penalties) are effectively addressed within contract structures.
  • Ensure EPC contractors and subcontractors deliver strictly in line with contractual obligations, technical specifications, timelines, and performance standards.
  • Maintain oversight of EPC and subcontractor execution, focusing on quality, compliance, and delivery governance, while all commercial engagements remain under Procurement and Finance functions.
  • Establish strong working relationships with EPC contractors, suppliers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure collaboration, transparency, and smooth execution.
  • Support Procurement and Legal teams with technical clarifications and risk evaluation during tendering and contract finalization, ensuring that project risks are appropriately mitigated.
  • Monitor vendor and contractor performance through structured governance, reporting, and review mechanisms.
  • Ensure back-to-back provisions of the PPA/BESPA/ OEM contracts are maintained.


Budget & Cost Control

  • Develop and control project budgets, ensuring financial discipline and cost optimization.
  • Review CAPEX and OPEX estimates for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Approve and monitor major procurement and construction expenditures.
  • Managing project budgets and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively. This includes tracking project expenses, estimating costs.


Stakeholder & Regulatory Coordination

  • Manage securing the permits and regulatory processes in close coordination with authorities, legal advisors, and consultants. This includes coordination & preparation of technical, commercial and legal documentation submissions required for permits and approvals.
  • Liaise with government authorities, utilities, and local agencies for permits and grid connectivity.
  • Represent the company in external meetings with investors, lenders, and partners.
  • Ensure transparent and timely reporting to management and board members.


Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks (technical, financial, contractual, environmental).
  • Prepare budgets and projections for project costs and overheads.
  • Develop contingency plans and monitor implementation.
  • Implement insights gained through implementation and experience and ensure that project deliverables are met in accordance with the contract.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, labour laws, and ESG requirements.
  • Manage audits, inspections, and certifications from regulatory authorities.


SOPs, Policies & Standardization

  • Develop and implement Project Execution SOPs, Quality Assurance frameworks, Approval Matrix, and Standardized Reporting formats.
  • Drive digitization and ERP integration for real-time project monitoring.


Ethics & Governance Commitment

The role is expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and corporate governance in all project dealings, ensuring strict alignment with the company’s compliance framework polices such as Anti bribery, ESG, supply codes etc. and zero tolerance for conflicts of interest.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: B.E. / B. Tech (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil). MBA or PMP/Prince2 Certification will be a plus.
  • Experience: 20–25 years in project execution within renewable energy (IPP or OEM or EPC) with at least 10+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering 3 GW+ renewable projects (Solar, Wind, and BESS).
  • Experience in leading large project teams (50+ members) and managing multi-contract EPC environments.
  • Strong knowledge of EPC contracts, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, and construction risk management.
  • The role will entail travel for frequently India and Overseas.
