Civil Construction Manager - Solar & BESS

Position Overview:

The Civil Construction Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and execution of civil works on Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project sites. Responsibilities include site preparation, earthworks, foundations, drainage, roads, fencing, and structural concrete works as per design specifications and safety standards. The manager ensures that all civil activities are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards. This role requires leadership, technical expertise, and strong stakeholder coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Construction Management

• Lead and manage the civil construction team and subcontractors on-site.
• Assist in site preparation, including clearing, grading, and levelling for solar array and BESS installations.
• Review and interpret IFC drawings, construction plans, and specifications for civil scope.
• Oversee all civil activities: site grading, roads, drainage, foundation works, fencing, cable trenches, etc.,
• Develop and track construction schedules, manpower deployment, and equipment utilization.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and structural teams to ensure civil works align with the overall project schedule.
• Coordinate with engineering, electrical, mechanical, and procurement teams to align design and construction timelines.
• Monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure timely resolution of technical or site-related issues.
• Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly reports, including progress, productivity, cost tracking and material tracking.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, and local authorities during inspections or audits.
• Ensure accurate as-built documentation, quality assurance checklists, and final handover packages.
• Support site inspections, including third-party, consultant, or client visits.
• Assist in material receiving, storage, and on-site logistics related to civil works.
• Review and approve civil BoQ, specifications, and construction methodologies.
• Manage civil contractors, resolve site-level issues, and ensure compliance with quality standards, safety protocols (HSE), and environmental regulations.
• Coordinate with land acquisition, transmission line, and substation teams for site readiness.
• Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and documentation for handover.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• 12+ years of experience in civil construction, with at least 5 years in solar PV or energy infrastructure projects and with 3+ years in leadership role.
• Proven ability to manage large-scale construction sites with multiple contractors and teams.
• Strong knowledge of concrete works, earthworks, foundations, and stormwater systems.
• Proficient in project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and construction reporting.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated success in managing engineering teams and contractors across multiple sites.
• Experience in geotechnical, structural, and site development engineering.
• Familiarity with EPC contract execution, QA/QC, and project management tools.
• Strong leadership, vendor management, and cross-functional coordination skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Skills & Traits

• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• PMP, CM-Lean, or equivalent construction management certifications.
• Physically fit and capable of working in outdoor environments.
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision.
• Basic knowledge of quality control checks (e.g., slump tests, compaction, curing, etc.).

Additional Certifications (Preferred but Not Mandatory)

• HSE / OSHA / NEBOSH Certification
• First Aid / Emergency Response Training
• Operator licenses for compactors, dumpers, or other civil machinery (if applicable)
