Job Title:
Manager – Learning & Development (L&D)
Location:
Steel Plant – Kutch, Gujarat
Department: Learning & Development
Reporting To: Head – HR / Unit Head
Job Purpose:
To lead the Learning & Development function by designing, building, and institutionalizing end-to-end training processes aligned with business needs, technical competencies, and statutory compliance for the steel manufacturing unit. This includes capability building, training governance, and establishing a learning culture across all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
📘 L&D Strategy & Process Building
Design and implement a structured L&D framework tailored to steel plant operations and workforce hierarchy (technical, supervisory, managerial).
Define L&D policies, SOPs, process workflows, and long-term learning roadmaps for key roles.
Develop competency matrices and define skill benchmarks for all critical technical roles.
🔍 Training Needs Identification & Skill Gap Analysis
Collaborate with HODs and Line Managers for systematic Skill Mapping, Gap Analysis, and Role-Based Skill Matrix development.
Establish technical training calendars (monthly, quarterly, and annual) for various functions – Furnace, Rolling Mill, Power Plant, Maintenance, etc.
Plan and execute leadership development, behavioural training, and safety/quality compliance training.
📊 Training Program Execution & Governance
Facilitate in-house and external training programs, technical certification, and functional workshops.
Drive functional academies or technical learning forums aligned with the production environment.
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IMS, TPM, Kaizen, and internal customer audit requirements through structured training interventions.
🧾 Training Data, MIS & Audit Compliance
Develop and maintain comprehensive Training MIS, dashboards, and analytics (Coverage %, Effectiveness, Feedback).
Ensure adherence to documentation protocols for IMS, QMS, safety, and statutory audits (as per ISO, OHSAS).
Conduct periodic evaluations of training impact through assessments, feedback, and productivity indicators.
🏭 Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
Lead employee capability enhancement initiatives as part of TEI, TPM, 5S, Kaizen, and operational excellence programs.
Actively contribute to digital learning adoption, e-learning platforms, and blended learning models.
Education: B.E. / B.Tech (Mechanical / Electrical) + MBA (HR or Industrial Management preferred)
Experience: 10 to 15 years in L&D or HRD roles in steel / heavy manufacturing industries
Industry Preference: Steel Plants (Blast Furnace, Induction Furnace, DRI, Rolling Mill, Caster, Power Plant)
Key Competencies & Skills:
End-to-end L&D process design and execution
Skill gap analysis, matrix building, and TNI/TNA methods
Knowledge of ISO 9001, IMS, QMS, TPM, and statutory training compliance
Hands-on with Training MIS, LMS, and documentation tools
Strong facilitation, communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills
Ability to influence culture change and build internal training capabilities
