About the Company:

U-Solar Clean Energy is a solar developer in India, headquartered in Bengaluru, that provides complete solar power solutions for industrial, commercial, and institutional clients. The company provides end to end solutions from design and engineering, project management as well as post sales services for solar projects. We have installed solar power plants through pay and own (CAPEX) and pay as you go (OPEX) models for our clients across India, as well as in international projects in Sri Lanka and Nepal. U-Solar Clean Energy is at a key turning point in its growth journey, evolving from a mid-size solar developer to a large-scale solar developer. This strategic evolution offers exceptional opportunities for professionals who are eager to undertake new challenges, lead transformative projects, and make a substantial impact in the renewable energy sector.

About the Role:

The Business Manager will play a pivotal role in driving U-Solar’s business growth by managing the costing, financial modelling, tendering, and client engagement functions. This role demands strong commercial acumen, an understanding of solar policies across Indian states, and a good grasp of both technical and contractual aspects of solar EPC projects. The Business Manager will also oversee and guide Technical Consultants in pre-sales and proposal development activities while collaborating cross-functionally with design, projects, procurement, and finance teams.

Responsibilities:

Business Development, Tendering & Proposal Management

  • Lead the end-to-end business acquisition and tendering process across industrial, commercial, institutional, and government segments, including bid evaluation, costing, proposal preparation, submission, and compliance documentation.
  • Analyze RFQs/RFPs from both public and private clients to prepare competitive technical-commercial offers aligned with client requirements and company profitability targets.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (design, projects, procurement, and finance) to finalize project cost estimates and ensure accuracy in BOQs and technical submissions.
  • Track tender notifications, private developer opportunities, policy updates, and solar programs across central, state, and corporate sectors to identify upcoming business prospects.

Client Relationship & Negotiation

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with industrial, commercial, and institutional clients, EPC partners, and government agencies.
  • Engage with clients during pre-bid, negotiation, and post-submission stages to clarify technical and financial aspects.
  • Represent the company in key client meetings and presentations to close deals and ensure repeat business.

Financial Modelling & Commercial Analysis

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models to assess project viability, IRR, and pricing strategies under both CAPEX and OPEX models.
  • Review financial assumptions, tariffs, and payback periods to ensure competitive yet profitable proposals.
  • Assist in developing new commercial structures and partnership models to enhance U-Solar’s service offerings.

Policy, Contracting & Documentation

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state-wise solar policies, net metering regulations, open access guidelines, and DISCOM frameworks.
  • Review and contribute to contract drafts, MoUs, and LOAs ensuring alignment with commercial and technical commitments.
  • Coordinate with the legal and finance teams for contract negotiation and risk assessment.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Technical Consultant team for proposal preparation, client meetings, and deal closures.
  • Prepare reports, forecasts, and market intelligence updates to support management in strategic decision-making.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Energy, or related field) is preferred.
  • MBA/PGDM in Finance, Strategy, or Marketing will be an added advantage.

Work Experience:

  • 7-10 years of overall experience with a minimum 4–6 years of experience in solar EPC or renewable energy business development roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in tendering, costing, financial modelling, and proposal management.
  • Prior experience working with reputed and process-driven solar EPC companies will be strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Autocad Software, PVSyst and SketchUp is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and commercial evaluation skills with attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of solar technical components and EPC workflows.
  • Proficient in MS Excel (financial modelling), PowerPoint, and CRM tools.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and client engagement abilities.
  • Awareness of contracts, policies, and regulatory frameworks related to solar projects across India.
  • Ability to handle multiple tenders and inquiries under tight deadlines.
  • Data-driven, organized, and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Collaborative team player capable of coordinating across departments.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
