The ESG Manager leads the design, execution and governance of the organisation’s ESG agenda. The role is accountable for ESG strategy, targets, programmes and disclosures, working closely with leadership, functional heads and external stakeholders (investors, customers, rating agencies, regulators).
Translate business strategy, stakeholder expectations and risk landscape into a coherent ESG strategy and roadmap.
Define ESG priorities, goals and KPIs; ensure integration into corporate strategy, risk management and business planning.
Establish ESG governance structures, policies and decision-rights (committees, working groups, charters).
Ensure alignment with board / leadership expectations and regulatory requirements.
Lead cross-functional ESG programmes (e.g. decarbonisation, resource efficiency, responsible sourcing, DEI, community impact, ethics & compliance).
Define project charters, timelines, budgets and success metrics for ESG initiatives.
Coordinate with Operations, HR, Finance, Procurement, Legal, IT and other teams to implement ESG actions and embed them in processes.
Monitor progress, resolve bottlenecks and escalate risks/issues where needed.
Own the ESG data model, controls and governance, including roles, systems and processes for data capture and validation.
Oversee preparation of sustainability / ESG reports and regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy, completeness and audit-readiness.
Manage external assurance processes and engagement with auditors / third-party verifiers where applicable.
Improve ESG ratings, rankings and scores by aligning disclosures to rating methodologies and addressing identified gaps.
Serve as key point of contact for ESG matters with investors, analysts, customers, partners and rating agencies.
Prepare and present ESG updates to the Board, leadership team and senior stakeholders.
Coordinate responses to ESG questionnaires (e.g. ratings, indices, customer due diligence) and stakeholder queries.
Support integration of ESG into investor relations, lender discussions and strategic partnerships.
Develop and periodically update ESG-related policies (e.g. Environmental Policy, Human Rights Policy, Supplier Code of Conduct, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Diversity & Inclusion).
Integrate ESG into enterprise risk management (ERM), including identification and assessment of climate, social and governance risks.
Track global and local ESG regulations and ensure timely compliance (e.g. sustainability reporting rules, sector-specific ESG norms).
Anticipate upcoming regulatory changes and prepare impact assessments and action plans.
Lead and mentor a team of ESG Consultants / Analysts (where applicable).
Build ESG awareness and capability across the organisation through training, toolkits and internal communication.
Foster a culture of responsible, sustainable and ethical business practices
Clear and Board-approved ESG strategy and roadmap.
Achievement of ESG targets and KPIs (e.g. emissions, energy, social indicators, governance metrics).
Timely, accurate and high-quality ESG disclosures and regulatory filings.
Improvement in ESG ratings, scores and investor perception over time.
Successful implementation of key ESG programmes and policy roll-outs.
Stakeholder satisfaction (Board, leadership, investors, customers, employees).
Strength and maturity of ESG governance and risk management.
Master’s / advanced degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Business, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, or related fields (or equivalent experience).
6–10+ years of relevant experience in ESG / sustainability / corporate responsibility / risk / consulting, with demonstrated leadership of ESG programmes or large projects.
Strong understanding of ESG standards, taxonomies and regulations applicable to the organisation’s geographies and sector.
Experience in managing ESG reporting and engagement with investors, rating agencies, or regulators.
Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders
Deep knowledge of ESG frameworks, disclosure standards and rating methodologies.
Ability to connect ESG risks and opportunities to financial and strategic impact.
Programme / project management skills with experience in complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
Strong analytical and data governance mindset; comfort with ESG systems and tools.
Strategic thinking and systems orientation.
Strong communication and storytelling skills (reports, board presentations, external communication).
Stakeholder influence and relationship management.
