Job Purpose
The Senior Software Engineer (Salesforce) role exists to drive the development, integration, administration, and support of our Salesforce Wheels org and associated applications. The position is vital for ensuring system reliability, enabling effective business processes for loan origination and underwriting, supporting multiple business teams, and delivering strategic technology projects to help Bajaj Finance achieve its business goals efficiently.
Duties And Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, customization, and integration of Salesforce CRM and allied business-critical applications, including loan origination and underwriting systems, to achieve desired functionality and efficiency for business operations.
- Ensure the stability, availability, and optimal performance of the Salesforce platform by proactively monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, and minimizing potential business disruptions.
- Coordinate effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to drive the timely completion of project milestones, oversee change management processes, and ensure all deliverables align with organizational standards.
- Provide advanced technical support (Tier 2 and Tier 3), handle incident management, and implement permanent resolutions for recurring issues to enhance the end-user experience.
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, including support processes, user guides, training materials, and knowledge base articles, to aid user enablement and knowledge transfer.
- Oversee and implement system integrations between Salesforce and other business-critical systems using industry-standard APIs (SOAP/REST), thus supporting data integrity and seamless process flows.
- Uphold governance by tracking delivery schedules, managing change processes, and providing regular status reports to relevant stakeholders.
Key Decisions / Dimensions
- Selection of appropriate technical approaches and programming methodologies (including choice of Java/Apex patterns, integration strategies, and API usage) for developing and enhancing Salesforce and related business applications.
- Prioritization and scheduling of development tasks, support activities, and incident resolution to ensure alignment with project timelines and business priorities.
- Evaluation and implementation of integration techniques to connect Salesforce with other platforms (e.g., Portals, EDW, mobile applications) while ensuring data consistency and system reliability.
- Identification and application of best practices for change management, version control, and deployment within the Salesforce ecosystem, in alignment with DevOps and ITIL principles.
- Determination of root cause solutions for recurring system issues, including whether to implement temporary workarounds or permanent fixes, while balancing risk and impact.
- Decisions regarding escalation or resolution of complex incidents and service requests, including coordination with cross-functional teams and external partners as appropriate.
- Selection and preparation of documentation, training materials, and user guides to maximize knowledge transfer and facilitate user adoption.
- Assessment of technological advancements and recommendations for adoption of relevant new tools, frameworks, or practices to support ongoing platform improvements.
Major Challenges
- Ensuring seamless integration of Salesforce CRM with diverse external and internal systems (such as portals, enterprise data warehouses, and mobile applications) while maintaining data integrity and system performance.
- Managing platform enhancements and multiple ongoing projects simultaneously, including the definition, execution, and timely delivery of project milestones within stringent deadlines.
- Addressing complex technical issues and resolving recurring incidents quickly to minimize downtime and maintain business continuity in a fast-paced financial services environment.
- Balancing the need for rapid delivery of new features and enhancements with stringent quality standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Coordinating effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners to align IT initiatives with evolving business requirements, while managing stakeholder expectations.
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation and knowledge bases despite frequent changes and updates in business processes and technology.
- Adapting to advancements in Salesforce technology, system integrations, and DevOps practices, and ensuring continuous skill development for sustained platform excellence.
Required Qualifications And Experience
Bachelor's / master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Experience in Manual and Automation Testing.
3+ years of experience in a Salesforce Admin/Developer role within a technology or IT organization.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong proficiency in Java and Apex programming languages, with hands-on experience in object-oriented programming and development on the Salesforce platform.
- In-depth understanding of Salesforce architecture, including configuration, customization, workflows, and security models.
- Practical experience with Salesforce APIs (SOAP/RESTful) for system integrations with internal and external platforms such as portals, data warehouses, and mobile applications.
- Demonstrated capability in project management: defining milestones, managing delivery schedules, monitoring progress, and facilitating status reporting.
- Proficient in Salesforce administration, platform health monitoring, incident management, and providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support.
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for troubleshooting system issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing permanent resolutions.
- Ability to document technical solutions, support processes, and create training materials and user guides for varied stakeholders.
- Sound understanding of the loan business lifecycle, financial processes, and the operational requirements of a financial services organization. (Good to have)
- Basic knowledge of database systems and data management principles.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and frameworks for change management, service delivery, and IT governance.
- Exposure to DevOps practices related to Salesforce, including automated deployments, version control, and continuous integration.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, Sales, Marketing) and managing relationships with external technology partners.
