This is an exciting opportunity to embed with a fast-paced mobile gaming studio and drive data-driven decision making across product, marketing, and monetization strategies. You'll work directly with the client's cross-functional teams to uncover insights, identify growth opportunities, and help shape the future of their racing game portfolio.
Job Responsibilities:
Insight Generation & Strategic Analysis:
- Conduct deep exploratory analysis of player behavior, game economy, and monetization patterns to uncover actionable insights
- Analyze player progression, retention funnels, and engagement metrics to identify opportunities for game improvement
- Investigate churned players, win/loss patterns, and session behaviors to understand what drives player satisfaction and lifetime value
- Perform segmentation analysis to identify high-value player cohorts and understand their unique behaviors and preferences
- Analyze in-game events, races, tournaments, and seasonal content to measure effectiveness and player engagement
- Identify patterns in player spending behavior, IAP (in-app purchase) conversion, and pricing elasticity across different player segments
Mobile Gaming Domain Expertise:
- Deep dive into car racing game-specific metrics including race completion rates, car upgrade patterns, track preferences, and competitive multiplayer engagement
- Analyze game economy balance including currency flows, reward systems, and progression curves
- Study player acquisition campaigns and channel performance specific to mobile gaming audiences
- Evaluate ad monetization strategies (rewarded video, interstitials) and their impact on player experience and retention
- Understand seasonal events, live ops performance, and content release impact on player engagement
- Analyze social features, clan/guild dynamics, and competitive leaderboard participation
Forecasting & Predictive Analytics:
- Build predictive models to forecast player churn, lifetime value, and revenue projections
- Develop early warning systems to identify at-risk players and opportunities for intervention
- Create forecasting models for daily/monthly active users, revenue, and key engagement metrics
- Predict impact of new features, content releases, and game updates on player behavior
- Model player progression trajectories and identify bottlenecks or drop-off points
Metrics Definition & Performance Tracking:
- Define and socialize key performance indicators (KPIs) across product, marketing, and monetization teams
- Build comprehensive metric frameworks for measuring game health, player satisfaction, and business performance
- Create dimensional models and metric definitions that enable self-service analytics for stakeholders
- Develop cohort analysis frameworks to track player performance over time
- Calculate and monitor LTV, ARPDAU, retention curves, conversion rates, and engagement scores
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:
- Partner closely with product managers to inform feature prioritization and roadmap decisions
- Collaborate with game designers to optimize game balance, difficulty curves, and reward structures
- Work with marketing teams to optimize user acquisition, attribution analysis, and campaign performance
- Support monetization team with pricing strategies, offer testing, and revenue optimization
- Present insights and recommendations to executive leadership in clear, compelling narratives
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations that non-technical stakeholders can understand and act upon
- Facilitate data-driven discussions and help teams make evidence-based decisions
Experimentation & Testing:
- Design and analyze A/B tests for new features, UI changes, pricing experiments, and marketing campaigns
- Evaluate test results, determine statistical significance, and provide clear recommendations
- Build experimentation frameworks and best practices for the organization
- Conduct post-launch analysis of new features and content releases
Dashboard & Visualization Development:
- Create intuitive, self-service dashboards in Metabase that answer key business questions
- Build visualizations that make complex data accessible to diverse stakeholders
- Develop automated reporting that keeps teams informed of key metrics and trends
- Design executive dashboards for quick assessment of business health
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Senior Analyst, or Analytics Lead, preferably in mobile gaming, mobile apps, or SaaS environments
Strong experience in mobile gaming analytics
or similar high-engagement consumer product environments- Expert-level SQL proficiency for complex data querying and analysis (Snowflake experience strongly preferred)
- Advanced Python or R skills for statistical analysis, modeling, and data manipulation
- Proven track record of generating actionable insights that directly influenced business decisions and product strategy
- Deep understanding of mobile app/gaming metrics: retention cohorts, LTV, DAU/MAU, ARPU, session metrics, conversion funnels
- Experience with statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and machine learning techniques
- Strong proficiency with data visualization and BI tools (Metabase, Tableau, Looker, or similar)
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills
- ability to present complex analyses to diverse audiences ranging from engineers to executivesCreative and curious mindset
with ability to ask the right questions and dig deep into data to find unexpected insights- Self-starter who can work independently, identify problems, and drive projects from insight to implementation
- Comfortable working as an embedded contractor within client teams
- Experience with mobile attribution platforms (AppsFlyer, Adjust, Branch, or similar)
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience in mobile gaming industry (racing games, action games, or other competitive multiplayer genres is a plus)
- Understanding of game design principles, player psychology, and game economy design
- Experience with game analytics platforms (GameAnalytics, Unity Analytics, Firebase, deltaDNA)
- Knowledge of free-to-play business models, IAP optimization, and ad monetization strategies
- Familiarity with player segmentation techniques (RFM analysis, behavioral clustering, persona development)
- Experience with churn prediction, propensity modeling, and player lifetime value forecasting
- Understanding of A/B testing in mobile gaming context and live ops experimentation
- Knowledge of user acquisition channels, attribution modeling, and marketing analytics specific to mobile gaming
- Experience with cohort analysis tools and retention curve analysis
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and their impact on mobile gaming analytics
- Understanding of platform-specific considerations (iOS vs Android player behavior, SKAdNetwork limitations)
- Experience with dbt or similar data transformation tools for creating analysis-ready datasets
- Previous consulting or contract experience with successful client engagements
- Domain knowledge in automotive, racing, or sports gaming
- Experience presenting to C-level executives and influencing strategic decisions
