GIL Chemicals is one of the oldest businesses of the Godrej Group. We have pioneered the manufacturing of oleo-chemicals venturing into the business in 1963. We produce a wide range of oleo chemical products derived from organic material.


Our products cater to various market segments including personal care, pharmaceutical and food industries. As of today, we market over 100 chemicals that finds myriad applications in over 24 products. Keeping abreast of the evolving market, we have built our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities located in Valia, Gujarat and in Ambernath, Maharashtra. We produce over 200,000 metric tonnes of chemical products annually, for use in home and personal care, rubber processing, polymer, pharmaceutical and industrial applications. Your Roles & Responsibilities


  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and updating EHS systems and procedures across the site to bring about standard safety culture amongst employees
  • Responsible for legal compliances at site.
  • Liaison with external agencies at local/ state/ central level with respect to EHS.
  • Ensure all time audit readiness (Statutory Customer audits) at sites from EHS point of view
  • Review the plan for internal EHS audits and monitoring the effectiveness of the same
  • Responsible for identifying training needs at business unit level, developing modules for addressing the gaps and effective training implementation
  • Gear up all function for effective implementation of EHS Initiative, system & process and standards
  • Responsible for developing strong and competent team down the line
  • Work closely with Production, Operations, Project, R&D and Supply Chain teams to ensure implementation of EHS management system & requirements
  • Monitor EHS key performance indicators (KPIs) and work with teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the EHS System & process to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Implement best practices, tools, and technologies to improve EHS key performance indicators, Overall Safety Culture and Environment operational efficiency improvement.
  • Foster strong relationships and clear communication between departments to ensure alignment on EHS requirement & compliance.
  • Should have exposure to following areas (but not limited to):
  • Process safety and risk management aspects -HIRA, QRA HAZOP, JSA, PSSR,What IF etc
  • Conducting internal safety audits
  • Behaviour Based Safety
  • Handling hazardous chemicals and treatment of hazardous waste
  • Deciding specs of new safety systems and evaluating projects for safety requirement
  • Industrial Hygiene monitoring
  • ISO 14001 OHSAS 18001, Responsible Care, GreenCo, 5’s certification
  • Monitor work permit system and its compliance on a regular basis
  • Reporting of incident & investigation system, RCA (root cause analysis)
  • PPE (Personal protective equipment) matrix, standardization


  • Regular review of on/off site emergency plan and update changes and ensure adequate training is provided to the ERT (Emergency response team) on a regular basis.
  • Compliance of relevant statutory requirements
  • Coordinate with dispatch department, marketing department and transport department at the time of any emergency during transit of hazardous goods
  • Site level evaluate and improve EHS systems in transportation (logistics) of hazardous chemicals.
  • Plan, coordinate and organize regular safety governance system e.g. Safety committee meetings, monthly reviews and seminars etc. for further improvement of the safety standards
  • Promote & organize the safety celebrations & other safety awareness programs at site
  • Schedule Inspection systems, Carry out general & specific safety inspections and audits of different plants & areas wrt fire safety
  • Conduct trainings, mock drills and audits on fire prevention, fire protection, firefighting systems and emergency preparedness at site.
  • Conduct motivational/training programs to employees, contract workers and new joiners.
  • Technical liaison with regulatory authorities, factory inspector, State & Central Pollution control board and MOEF& CC
  • Compliance with PCB latest guidelines for water, air and hazardous wastes.
  • Monitoring for effective operation of ETP/STP and ZLD system (RO, MEE, MVR, ATFD)
  • Experience to take legal approvals like Factory drawing approvals, Environment Clerance, CTE/CTO/CCA, Fire NOC, PWM and Hazardous water management.

Education Qualification

BE/B.Tech/ ME/M.Tech in Chemical Engineering/ Fire & Safety/ Industrial Safety Engineering/ Environmental Engineering OR

MSc in Organic Chemistry +

ADIS/PDIS


Nature of Experience

Working Experience as EHS professional in the Chemical/petrochemical/Pharmaceutical (API unit) / Fertiliser / Agrochemical industry is strongly preferred.

Handled leadership role, leading team and proven ability to lead cross-functional teams.


Duration of Experience

Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in EHS Function
