Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB


CMDB Analyst/Specialist


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. CMDB Data Management & Quality Governance

  • Maintain the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all Configuration Items (CIs).
  • Enforce CI naming standards, lifecycle states, models, and data governance rules.
  • Improve CMDB health using defined KPIs (accuracy, completeness, compliance, relationship quality).
  • Perform routine audits and reconciliation across discovery tools, asset sources, and cloud inventories.
  • Drive long-term data quality improvement programs with measurable outcomes.
  • Identify systemic data issues and recommend structural fixes, not only operational corrections.


2. CI Relationship Mapping & Service Dependency Modelling

  • Maintain and validate service maps, CI relationships, and dependency models to support impact analysis.
  • Work with Infrastructure, Cloud, and Application teams to ensure accurate cross-platform relationships.
  • Ensure CMDB dependency data supports Incident, Change, Problem, and Security processes.
  • Enhance relationship depth and quality to support automation and predictive impact analysis.
  • Continuously improve service modelling maturity beyond basic relationships.


3. Strategic CMDB Maturity & Roadmap Support

  • Contribute to the CMDB maturity roadmap by identifying capability gaps and proposing improvements.
  • Support SACM governance framework development and process adoption.
  • Assist in scaling CMDB coverage across hybrid, on-prem, and cloud environments.
  • Participate in defining the long-term CMDB vision and multi-year roadmap.
  • Recommend strategic improvements based on industry best practices (ITIL, ISO, COBIT).


4. Discovery Tool Management & Integrations

  • Manage and optimize discovery sources (SCCM/MECM, ServiceNow Discovery, Azure inventory).
  • Support API integrations, automation flows, and reconciliation logic between CMDB and other platforms.
  • Help develop automation/scripting (PowerShell, Python, SQL) for data ingestion and validation.
  • Improve ingestion pipelines and proactively identify gaps in discovery coverage.
  • Support integration enhancements using APIs, event-driven automation, or middleware solutions.


5. Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build partnerships with Infra, Cloud, Applications, Security, and Governance teams.
  • Influence stakeholders on CMDB adoption, compliance, and data quality improvements.
  • Lead workshops to improve CI onboarding and correct CMDB usage.
  • Manage stakeholder resistance and drive organizational buy-in for CMDB processes.
  • Present CMDB value to senior leadership and influence adoption decisions.


6. Security, Risk & Compliance Alignment

  • Provide accurate CI data to Security teams for vulnerability management, patching, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure CMDB alignment with SOC 1/2, ISO 20000, and ITGC requirements.
  • Support audit readiness and risk mitigation activities through improved configuration accuracy.
  • Ensure CMDB supports controls testing and provides evidence for compliance audits.
  • Improve attack surface visibility through enhanced CI attribution and mapping.


7. ITIL Process Integration (Incident, Change, Problem)

  • Provide CI insights for incident impact assessment, problem analysis, and RCA.
  • Strengthen Change Management by improving CI relationships and automating lifecycle transitions.
  • Identify opportunities to increase ITSM process efficiency using CMDB insights.
  • Collaborate with process owners to refine ITIL workflows using CMDB data.
  • Ensure CMDB becomes a reliable input for proactive problem and change risk analysis.


8. Reporting, Metrics & Insights

  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reports on CMDB health, usage, and compliance.
  • Provide leadership with insights on risk areas, data quality trends, and improvement priorities.
  • Define and track core KPIs: completeness, accuracy, compliance, relationship depth, usage trends.
  • Build data-driven insights to support governance decisions and resource planning.


9. Training, Awareness & CMDB Evangelism

  • Conduct onboarding, awareness, and best-practice training for IT teams.
  • Promote CMDB adoption and strengthen process discipline across the organization.
  • Develop role-specific training content for technical and non-technical teams.
  • Act as a CMDB champion to drive culture change and process alignment.


10. Documentation, Standards & Policy Ownership

  • Own and maintain CMDB policies, procedures, CI class definitions, and data model documentation.
  • Publish and update naming conventions, standards, and governance guidelines.
  • Ensure documentation is baselined, version-controlled, and audit-ready.
  • Continuously update the CMDB data model to reflect new technologies and business services.


11. Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify opportunities for automation, process re-engineering, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive measurable improvements in CMDB data quality and configuration accuracy.
  • Introduce innovative solutions (AI-assisted mapping, automated quality checks, orchestration flows).
  • Perform root-cause analysis to eliminate recurring data quality issues.


12. Career Progression & Development

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

Qualification

Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field

Minimum Experience

6-8 Years of Relevant experience in onfiguration Management Database (CMDB)

Skills & Competencies


Working knowledge of ITIL practices: Configuration, Change, Incident, Asset Management & ITIL Foundation Certification V3/V4 (Must)

  • Experience with CI relationship mapping and service modelling (Jira Service Management CMDB / Assets)
  • Knowledge of discovery solutions and integrations (API, SCCM, Intune, Jamf, AD, Cloud)
  • Strong data validation, analysis, and reporting skills
  • Good documentation and stakeholder communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel / reporting tools.

Basic scripting/automation knowledge (PowerShell / Python / SQL)
