I. Core Sales & Business Development Skills

1. Sales & Closing

  • Skills: Full-cycle sales management, pipeline forecasting, deal negotiation and closing, lead qualification (BANT/MEDDIC), and strategic prospecting.
  • Why It Matters: The candidate should be able to close high-value contracts for video and advertising services and accurately predict revenue.

2. Strategic Planning

  • Skills: Growth strategy development, market analysis, competitor analysis, and revenue stream identification.
  • Why It Matters: They must identify which markets (e.g., B2B SaaS, CPG, Healthcare) and which services (e.g., animated explainers, TV commercials) offer the highest ROI.

3. Relationship Management

  • Skills: Executive-level relationship building, key account management, client retention strategy, and industry networking.
  • Why It Matters: Success depends on turning new contacts into long-term, high-value clients and partners.

4. Proposal & Pitching

  • Skills: Presentation skills, RFI/RFP response management, proposal writing and structuring, and storytelling.
  • Why It Matters: The candidate must articulate the agency’s value and translate creative ideas into clear business benefits that drive client sales.

5. Commercial Acumen

  • Skills: Budgeting and forecasting, contract negotiation (terms & conditions), and financial modeling (retainer vs. project pricing).

II. Creative & Industry-Specific Skills

1. Video Production Knowledge

  • Skills: Understanding of the video production workflow (pre-production, shoot, post-production), creative terminology (concepting, storyboarding, editing), and technical capabilities or limitations.
  • Why It Matters: The candidate must be able to speak confidently with prospects about complex creative projects and understand what the internal team can deliver.

2. Advertising & Marketing Strategy

  • Skills: Deep understanding of performance marketing, how video drives ROI and conversions, knowledge of digital ad platforms (YouTube, Meta, TikTok), and brand strategy.
  • Why It Matters: They should sell solutions, not just videos, by linking creative output to the client’s marketing funnel and KPIs.

3. Creative Briefing

  • Skills: Ability to extract clear business objectives from clients and translate them into actionable, insightful creative briefs for the internal team.
  • Why It Matters: Ensures no misalignment between client needs and the creative concepts produced.

III. Leadership & Management Skills

1. Leadership & Coaching

  • Skills: Team mentorship, sales team motivation, and cross-departmental collaboration (especially between Sales and Creative/Production teams).
  • Why It Matters: The person may lead or mentor a small sales or account team and must align departments for smooth client onboarding.

2. Analytical & Data-Driven Approach

  • Skills: CRM proficiency (Salesforce, HubSpot), sales metrics analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
