Role Overview

Sourcing Manager – Agriculture Machinery Division

This position requires a strategic thinker with deep industry knowledge—someone who knows which vendors excel in gears, who produces reliable tynes/shanks, who manufactures high-quality blades, and who provides globally benchmarked transmission and implement components.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Sourcing & Category Expertise

  • Build sourcing strategies for the full range of agricultural implement components—rotavators, cultivators, seeders, ploughs, PTO shafts, powertrain units, blade assemblies, shanks, tynes, transmissions, controllers, castings, forgings, and sheet metal assemblies.
  • Conduct technology and market benchmarking in India and abroad.
  • Identify best-fit suppliers based on specialization, competency, capacity, and cost.
  • Align sourcing decisions with NPI and long-term division strategy.

2. Supplier Identification, Evaluation & Onboarding

  • Build a robust vendor network across India, China, Europe, and global agri-tech hubs.
  • Conduct technical and commercial audits covering capability, machinery, quality systems (ISO/IATF), APQP/PPAP readiness, costing processes, and scalability.
  • Drive RFQs, supplier qualification, and onboarding processes.

3. Cost Engineering, Negotiation & Contract Management

  • Lead complex negotiations for components, tooling, and long-term contracts.
  • Perform detailed cost analysis (BOM costing, should-costing, VAVE).
  • Build cost models for common and critical agri-implement components.
  • Prepare and manage contracts aligned with legal and corporate standards.

4. Technology & Specification Expertise

  • Strong understanding of:
  • Blades, tynes, shanks, rotors, flanges
  • Gearboxes, PTO systems, transmissions
  • Bearings, shafts & powertrain components
  • Hydraulics: 3-point linkage, valves, cylinders
  • Controllers/sensors & electronic systems
  • Collaborate with R&D and production for evaluation of samples and prototypes.

5. Supplier Performance, Development & Risk Management

  • Define and track supplier KPIs—quality, delivery, cost, NPD responsiveness.
  • Lead supplier improvement initiatives (Kaizen, VAVE, lean).
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies across the supply chain.
  • Build long-term partnerships with strategic suppliers for innovation and competitiveness.

6. Budget Ownership, Cost Optimization & Compliance

  • Manage sourcing budgets and support divisional profitability.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives including localization and alternate sourcing.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, IATF/ISO standards, import norms, and sustainability guidelines.


Desired Candidate Profile

Education

  • B.Tech./M.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

  • 7–8 years

    in sourcing, procurement, or supplier development in agricultural machinery, implements, tractors, or off-highway equipment.
  • Strong exposure to vendor audits, NPD sourcing, and component-level negotiations.

Industry Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of Indian and global agri-implement vendor ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of who manufactures what across clusters—gear systems (Rajkot), rotavator blades (Punjab), gearbox specialists (Italy/Turkey), etc.
