About the Role

You will build and lead Vyrian’s India legal function. The scope covers commercial contracting, employment matters, compliance, and litigation management. You will partner with Human Resources, Finance, and Operations, and coordinate cross-border issues with our United States legal team. You will also design and run a practical compliance program sized to our India footprint.

Responsibilities

Quarterly

• Update legal playbooks, core templates, and authority matrices; brief stakeholders on legal changes.
• Present a quarterly risk review (disputes, investigations, policy adherence, data-protection readiness).
• Manage outside counsel selection, performance, budgets, and outcomes.

Monthly

• Oversee litigation and pre-litigation dockets; set strategy, budgets, evidence preservation, and reporting.
• Monitor compliance program health (Shops and Establishments, statutory registers, audits) and drive fixes.
• Coordinate cross-border matters with the United States legal team (data transfers, retention, legal holds).
• Maintain entity governance and routine corporate administration; support any employer of-record or staffing-vendor structures.
• Advise Human Resources on hiring, policies, investigations, discipline, notice, severance, and handbooks; ensure accurate, auditable employee records.

Daily

• Draft, review, and negotiate India-side commercial agreements and operational documents.
• Prepare and respond to legal notices; coordinate factual development and digital evidence collection.
• Provide clear, timely, business-oriented advice and maintain organized, auditable matter files.

Skills and Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in India and in good standing.
• 5+ years post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal team.
• Strong drafting and negotiation of India-side commercial agreements.
• Hands-on employment law under applicable labour laws and Shops and Establishments regimes.
• Litigation management: claims assessment, legal notices, evidence preservation, outside counsel oversight, and status/risk/cost reporting.
• Working knowledge of India’s data-protection regime, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023; familiarity with cross-border data transfers, retention, legal holds, and practical email or messaging evidence collection.
• Excellent written and spoken English; clear, business-oriented communication.
• Comfortable working across time zones with United States counterparts.
• High integrity, sound judgment, and a bias for simple, scalable processes.

Education

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent. An advanced law degree or prior in-house experience in a global or United States-headquartered company is a plus.
