Position Overview
The Release Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end release process, ensuring smooth, timely, and high-quality deployments of software updates to our non-production and production environments. This role involves coordinating with cross-functional teams, maintaining release schedules, improving deployment pipelines, and driving operational excellence in release management. The Release Manager owns the entire release lifecycle (e.g. planning, scheduling, managing, testing, deploying, etc.) to ensure that releases meet customer needs while aligning with company goals for reliability and scalability. Key Responsibilities
- Release Planning and Coordination
- Develop and maintain a release calendar, coordinating with product, engineering, and operations teams to plan, schedule, and execute releases.
- Facilitate release readiness reviews, including risk assessments, quality assurance sign-offs, and stakeholder approvals.
- Deployment Management
- Oversee deployment processes, ensuring they adhere to best practices for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
- Manage the implementation of new releases into production, ensuring minimal disruption to customers and adherence to service-level agreements.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Act as the central point of contact for release activities, providing regular updates to stakeholders and resolving conflicts.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, QA, and support teams to address challenges, resolve blockers, and mitigate risks.
- Process Improvement
- Continuously evaluate and refine the release process to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Implement tools and practices that enhance automation, monitoring, and reporting within the release pipeline.
- Incident Management
- Ensure rollback procedures and contingency plans are in place to address issues during or after a release.
- Lead post-release reviews to document lessons learned and drive corrective actions.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure release management processes comply with industry regulations and company policies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of release plans, configurations, and decisions to support transparency and auditability.
Qualifications
- Required
- Experience should be 10 to 15 years.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in release management, project management, or software engineering, preferably in a SaaS environment.
- Solid understanding of agile software development methodologies.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with security testing best practices (SAST, DAST, OWASP, Vulnerability) and tools including SonarQube, Veracode, Zap etc. and implement security gates in delivery pipelines.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Preferred
- Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA).
- Certification in ITIL, Agile, or DevOps practices.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog) and incident management platforms (e.g., PagerDuty).
