How will you make an impact in this role?
The American Express Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) function provides second-line policy, framework, oversight and control solutions to meet the Company’s legal, regulatory and risk management mandates in connection with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Terrorism Financing (CTF), Sanctions and Anti-Bribery and Corruption. The GFCC portfolio comprises all aspects of the Company’s first and second-line financial crime risk management (FCRM) activities, including all lines of businesses in the APAC and both proprietary non-proprietary global markets.
This role is part of the International Financial Crimes Governance & Program Enablement team, within the Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) organization. The team provides subject matter expertise and strategic guidance on financial crime programs to market compliance teams, line of business compliance, and business partners involved in developing and implementing new products, processes, and systems across APAC & LACC regions.
This role includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
- Support the design, maintenance, and execution of the International Financial Crimes Governance & Program Enablement Framework, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide standards and regulatory expectations.
- Contribute to the enhancement of the Operational Risk Management Framework within the Financial Crimes Governance & Program Enablement organization, fostering strong integration between financial crimes oversight and broader risk disciplines.
- Assist in identifying MIS needs for market teams, leveraging data and analytics to evaluate program performance, and escalating key issues or emerging trends to leadership for review and inclusion in Board and governance reporting.
- Provide input into the development and enhancement of reporting across core elements of financial crimes programs, preparing updates and dashboards for senior management on the operation and effectiveness of systems and controls.
- Support initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and consistency across markets, including process improvements, backlog reduction, and operational optimization.
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of quality assurance activities to evaluate process effectiveness and control performance, identifying gaps and contribute to the development of improvement actions.
- Assist in risk and control assessment activities, including risk identification, control evaluation, testing, and documentation to strengthen governance and operational integrity.
- Participate in enterprise-wide initiatives, such as new process design, system deployment, and control enhancements, ensuring business requirements are properly defined, tested, and implemented.
- Collaborate with global product, technology, and enablement teams to capture market-specific nuances and regulatory obligations within business and system requirements.
- Support the development of project deliverables, including documentation, training materials, and communication plans, to ensure successful adoption and integration of new systems or processes.
- Assist in reviews of compliance and operational processes to confirm adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Up to 3 years of experience in financial crimes, compliance, or operational risk within the financial services industry.
Foundational understanding of governance frameworks and financial crime compliance concepts such as AML, KYC, or transaction monitoring.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to interpret and summarize complex information clearly.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
Proactive problem-solver with sound judgment and attention to detail.
Comfortable operating in a global and matrixed environment with diverse stakeholders.
