Job Description

The QAD Techno-Functional Consultant is responsible for both functional requirements and the technical development of core ERP QAD application for the Metal Packaging division of Sonoco.  Responsible for analyzing cross-system business process re-engineering recommendations in order to define new or enhanced technology solutions.  Provides leadership and consultancy for functional and process improvement efforts related to the support of information delivery and core IT services. 


Essential Functions (> 10% time spent on these duties); approx. 10 line items recommended:

 

  1. Analyzes complex business problems to be solved with automated systems, including detailed designs that support general business case information that requires additional research, validation, and translation into system solution requirements. 
  2. Modifying existing programs, conducting code-review, and writing new programs conforming to QAD Progress 4GL best practices and standards.   
  3. Configures system settings and options; plans and executes unit, integration and acceptance testing; and creates specifications for systems to meet business requirements 
  4. Leads and coordinates Integration Testing (INT/SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and associated activities such as test plan, test cases and test execution as related to a new implementation or significant enhancements to an existing implementation  
  5. Assisting with the installation, version upgrades, and maintenance of QAD application and related 3rd party software applications  
  6. Help to develop and implement processes and methodologies.  Mentor, coach and lead staff augmentation consultants, new team members, or other business subject matter experts (SMEs), as required.  
  7. Provides detailed functional and technical documentation 
  8. Understanding and executing application lifecycle management best practices (change control) for promoting development customizations into production environment 
  9. Advising information technology strategies, policies and procedures by evaluating organizational outcomes, identify problems, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements. 
  10. Ability to work independently as well as collaborating with end users, managers, and fellow members of the IT Team

Position Requirements:

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through    high school;     college or   graduate degree level education in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field. Master’s Degree is preferred. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field 
  • 8+ years of experience working with ERP systems : QAD 2011SE or 2014SE 
  • 5+ years QAD Progress 4GL (OpenEdge ABL) programming  
  • Expert experience with creating and maintaining QAD NetUI browses 
  • EDI Interface administration, requirements and transmission expert experience 
  • User setup and system administrative experience 
  • Experience with Label design and printing through Datamax programming code 
  • Experience with Linux command and script writing for Linux commands within Progress code  
  • QAD implementation, upgrade and support experience including 3rd party applications including Telnet/SSH, RF Devices (StayLink) 
  • Experience with writing and modifying code to integrate with other on-premise and cloud applications. 
  • Experience with: MRP, Production scheduling (repetitive manufacturing), Workorders, Backflush, invoicing, Purchasing, Sales Order and Pricing, Shipping, Item master, Costing, Bill of Materials, Forecasting 
  • Experience with or knowledge of Warehouse management processes, material movement/ pallet tracking, Inventory management, RF concepts 
  • General knowledge of can manufacturing, steel manufacturing, coating process or lithography knowledge is a plus. 
  • Excellent analytical problem solving and decision-making skills within functional and technical areas with keen focus on root cause analysis, problem prevention and system stability 
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain training documentation and deliver training to users at all levels of the organization. 
  • Able to assemble, analyze, and evaluate data and be able to make appropriate and well-reasoned recommendations and decisions to support the business and project teams 
  • Knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems, specifically QAD Progress DB and Microsoft SQL Server (SSRS, SSIS) 
  • NetUI QAD Report Writing Tool experience preferred 
  • Cyberquery knowledge or experience preferred 
  • PowerBI knowledge or experience preferred 
  • QAD – EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) functional process knowledge preferred 
  • QAD Certification preferred 
  • MS Azure database knowledge preferred
