JOB SUMMARY The Manager, Cloud Operations leads a team of AI engineers and technical leads to design, deliver, and operate AI-enabled platform capabilities that improve reliability, security, scalability, and developer productivity across multi-cloud environments. The manager defines the technical vision and roadmap for AI agents and platform services, aligns solutions with product and business goals, and ensures delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable AI/ML systems. This role establishes best practices for software and data architectures, partners closely with internal customers and vendors, and embeds responsible AI, security, and compliance into day-to-day operations. All AI usage must comply with enterprise AI Governance and the list of Approved AI Tools. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: People Leadership & Talent Build and manage a team of AI engineers and technical leads; set clear goals, roles, and expectations. Determine appropriate staffing to achieve objectives; interview and recruit top talent; drive inclusive, high-performance culture. Manage and mentor engineers; provide career development opportunities; establish practices for knowledge sharing and communication. Encourage a growth mindset and accountability for outcomes; connect business strategy to individual responsibilities. Strategy, Roadmap & Architecture Define technical vision and roadmap for AI agent development and platform capabilities in partnership with Product and Engineering. Influence and define the long-term vision, mission, and data strategies; ensure technical designs are thoroughly evaluated and aligned to business objectives. Define and implement best practices in software and data architectures, including LLMOps/MLOps, policy-as-code, and reference blueprints. Delivery, Quality & Operations Ensure delivery of scalable, secure, and maintainable AI/ML systems; drive high availability with SLOs, error budgets, and continuous improvement. Operationalize AIOps for incident detection, correlation, and auto-remediation; standardize runbooks and post-incident RCAs. Oversee CI/CD, IaC, and configuration management (e.g., Terraform/Ansible/GitHub Actions); promote automation-first practices. Data Platform & Business Alignment Work closely with Product, Engineering, and other departments to ensure the data and AI platforms meet business requirements. Prioritize outcomes on the roadmap; balance reliability, cost, and velocity; measure and communicate value (e.g., MTTR, availability, cost/perf). Stakeholder & Vendor Management Build strong relationships with internal customers, partners, and stakeholders to align on goals and trade-offs. Partner with external vendors to resolve issues and technical challenges; evaluate solutions through proofs-of-value with clear KPIs. Governance, Risk & Compliance Embed security and privacy by design; ensure AI usage adheres to AI Governance Policy, AI Policy Highlights, and the Approved AI Tools list. Implement auditable change management, DR/BC testing, and evidence capture; manage operational risks and communicate status to leadership. Continuous Improvement & Thought Leadership Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends; introduce pragmatic innovations that advance reliability and productivity. Drive communities of practice and enablement sessions for AIOps, observability, IaC, and responsible AI. On-Call & Incident Oversight Establish on-call standards and readiness; act as escalation point for critical incidents; ensure thorough post-incident actions are owned and delivered. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises Software/Systems Engineers and Technical Leads. Responsible for recruiting, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and compensation input. Oversees third-party partners and vendors as applicable. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Proven people leadership with experience managing engineering teams; strong coaching, feedback, and performance management skills. Expertise in AI-enabled operations (AIOps), observability (Datadog/CloudWatch/Elastic), and incident/problem management. Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS required; Azure/OCI/GCP a plus) and multi-cloud networking, security, and resilience patterns. Strong automation background with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD (Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions; policy-as-code). Knowledge of LLMOps/MLOps practices (model selection, evaluation, deployment, monitoring) and responsible AI principles. Ability to define data and software architecture patterns that are scalable, secure, and maintainable. Exceptional cross-functional communication and stakeholder management; ability to translate business goals into technical outcomes. Vendor evaluation and management experience; ability to quantify value with clear KPIs and ROI. EDUCATION AND TRAINING 10+ years in technology roles supporting production systems/services. 4+ years in formal people management or leading engineers/technical leads. 3+ years supporting customer-facing systems and services. 1+ years with Agile methodologies. Preferred: Certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure, Datadog, Terraform) and training in people leadership and responsible AI.
