Job Summary

As Chief Product Officer (CPO), you will be the strategic leader responsible for defining and executing Zato's product vision, strategy, and roadmap. You will lead the product management organization, collaborate closely with engineering, design, business, and go-to-market teams, and ensure that Zato delivers exceptional value to accounting firms globally. This senior leadership role reports to the CEO/Founder and is pivotal in shaping the future of accounting compliance automation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

• Define and communicate Zato’s product vision, strategy, and long-term roadmap aligned with company mission and business objectives
• Establish product principles, priorities, and decision-making frameworks that guide the entire product organization
• Identify market opportunities, competitive threats, and strategic initiatives to drive product differentiation and market leadership
• Lead market research, customer discovery, and strategic planning to inform product investments and go-to-market strategies
• Build and maintain relationships with key customers, partners, industry associations, and stakeholders in the accounting ecosystem

Product Management:

• Lead and mentor a team of product managers, product analysts, and domain experts, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and customer obsession
• Oversee development and execution of product roadmaps for core platform, integrations, AI/ML features, and new product lines
• Drive prioritization decisions across the product portfolio, balancing customer needs, business value, technical feasibility, and strategic alignment
• Define success metrics, KPIs, and OKRs for the product organization and ensure accountability for results
• Establish product development processes, best practices, and frameworks enabling rapid iteration and high-quality delivery

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Partner closely with CTO and engineering leadership to ensure technical feasibility, architecture alignment, and engineering excellence
• Collaborate with design leadership to ensure exceptional user experience, intuitive workflows, and delightful interactions
• Work with sales, marketing, and customer success teams to develop go-to-market strategies, positioning, messaging, and customer adoption initiatives
• Engage with customer success and support teams to gather feedback, identify pain points, and drive continuous product improvements
• Present product strategy, roadmap, and performance updates to the board of directors and executive leadership team

Innovation and Market Leadership:

• Drive innovation in accounting automation leveraging AI/ML, intelligent workflows, and emerging technologies
• Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, competitive landscape, and technology advancements in accounting and fintech
• Identify opportunities for new product lines, adjacent markets, and strategic partnerships to expand Zato's value proposition
• Champion customer-centric product development through continuous discovery, experimentation, and validation
• Build thought leadership and represent Zato at industry conferences, webinars, and customer events

Organizational Development:

• Build, scale, and structure the product management organization to support company growth from pilot to production to scale
• Define roles, responsibilities, and career paths within the product organization
• Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, customer empathy, and continuous learning
• Recruit, develop, and retain top product management talent

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced technical degree strongly preferred
• 3+ years’ experience in product leadership roles; 10+ years in product management with at least 5 years in senior product leadership roles (VP Product, CPO) preferred
• Proven track record of building and scaling successful B2B SaaS products from early stage to growth stage
• Deep expertise in product strategy, roadmap development, and go-to-market execution
• Strong understanding of accounting, finance, compliance, or professional services industries is highly desirable
• Experience with workflow automation, AI/ML products, or intelligent systems is a strong plus
• Exceptional leadership skills with experience building and managing high-performing product teams
• Strategic thinker with ability to balance vision with execution and long-term goals with short-term delivery
• Strong technical acumen to engage with engineering teams on architecture and technical decisions
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels including board members
• Customer-centric mindset with passion for solving real business problems and delivering measurable value
• Data-driven approach to decision-making with comfort analyzing metrics, trends, and business performance
• Experience with agile methodologies, lean product development, and continuous delivery practices
• Track record of successful product launches, market expansion, and revenue growth
• Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort operating in ambiguity and fast-paced startup environments
• Experience in New Zealand, Australian, or international markets is a plus
