The Opportunity:
Business Expertise
: Requires a solid understanding of how engineering, procurement, quality, and operations collaborate to deliver capital projects. Must be familiar with industry standards for machinery installation and commissioning, and have working knowledge of vendor capabilities, competitor practices, and how equipment performance aligns with business goals such as production readiness and efficiency.
Problem Solving
: Handles recurring technical and coordination challenges at project sites, including equipment fitment issues, vendor delays, and integration problems. Requires practical problem-solving skills, real-time decision-making, and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions. Must resolve issues quickly to avoid project delays, often balancing technical accuracy with execution speed.

: Directly impacts project timelines, equipment functionality, and plant readiness. Affects cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, and suppliers. Plays a key role in ensuring safe, timely, and compliant installation and commissioning, with outcomes influencing production uptime, capital efficiency, and long-term equipment reliability.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage complete project life cycle from system specification through design, development, testing and commissioning
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to develop automation and control systems for a new battery manufacturing facility.
- Analyse and design digital manufacturing processes to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Design and develop the architecture for PLC, HMI, IPC, and related control systems, ensuring seamless integration with plant equipment, automation systems, and other technologies
- Development and programming of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Develop and implement Vision Control Systems for quality inspection, material tracking, and defect detection within the manufacturing process. Ensure integration of vision systems with other automation and control systems to improve manufacturing consistency and reduce errors.
- Develop, configure, and manage communication protocols (e.g., OPC, MQTT, Modbus) to ensure seamless and reliable data exchange between PLCs, HMIs, IPCs, and other systems across the production line.
- Integrate control systems with other enterprise systems such as MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), ensuring real-time data exchange for improved decision-making, traceability, and quality control.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and resolving complex automation issues, working closely with other departments, such as maintenance and production.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to increase the automation systems' reliability, accuracy, and performance, and to optimize energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Develop and deliver training programs for the production and maintenance teams on automation systems, PLC programming, Vision Controls, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Establish and maintain document standards for automation and control systems across the new facilities.
- Create and ensure best practices for system design, integration, and maintenance.
- Define and develop improvement plans where advances in technology or practice can bring benefit to our business
- Developing SOPs and other documentation related to Process Control Systems.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors for the procurement and installation of automation equipment.
- Conduct factory acceptance testing and commissioning, ensuring all work meets company quality standards and participate in design reviews.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Experience in Automation & Control Systems engineering within a Li-Ion Battery Manufacturing or similar high-tech manufacturing environment.
- Extensive hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA systems, HMI, IPC, DCS, and other control systems in a manufacturing context.
- Experience with advanced automation technologies such as robotics, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), and machine vision systems in manufacturing
- Excellent proficiency in programming and testing PLC (Siemens/Omron/Beckhoff/ Mitsubishi)
- Expertise in SCADA systems, HMI configuration, and information systems
- Knowledge of Industrial Cybersecurity, control network architecture, and communication protocols (Ethernet, ProfiBus, ProfiNet, Modbus)
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and excellent documentation skills
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure with minimal supervision, and meet project timelines
- Experience in project management, coordination, and excellent customer relationship-building skills
- Experience with Vision Control Systems for quality inspection, process monitoring, and defect detection, including system setup, integration, and optimization.
- AutoCAD knowledge and experience
- Ideally the ability to code in visual basic and or C++
Experience
5–8 years in industrial equipment/machinery Automation & Controls
Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Automation & Control Engineering, , Mechatronics, or a related technical field. Master’s degree or certifications in automation systems is a plus.
- Certification in Automation and Control Systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with advanced technologies such as vision systems, machine learning algorithms, or AI-powered automation is a plus.
- Knowledge of battery manufacturing processes or similar high-precision production environments is beneficial.
