Position Overview:

We are seeking a Business Development Manager with maritime expertise to drive client acquisition and growth in our fleet management company, focusing on attracting shipowners for technical management services. The role involves identifying opportunities, building partnerships, and negotiating contracts to expand our managed fleet.


Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and target potential clients, including shipowners, operators, and investors needing third-party technical management.

• Develop and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders such as brokers, charterers, and crew management firms.

• Prepare and deliver pitches highlighting our technical management strengths, including maintenance, compliance, and cost optimization.

• Negotiate management contracts using standards like BIMCO SHIPMAN, ensuring alignment with company capabilities.

• Attend maritime conferences, trade shows, and networking events to generate leads.

• Analyse market trends in shipping to inform strategies for fleet expansion.

• Collaborate with internal teams to customize proposals based on client needs.

• Track and report on sales pipelines, aiming for annual growth in managed vessels.


Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, Naval Engineering, or Logistics (e.g., from institutions like World Maritime University).

• Minimum 5-10 years of experience in the maritime industry, preferably in ship management, operations, or sales roles.

• Proven track record in business development within shipping, with experience in third-party management as a plus.

• Familiarity with maritime regulations such as ISM Code, SOLAS, and MLC.

Essential Skills:

• Strong sales and negotiation abilities, including pitch preparation and deal closing.

• Excellent networking skills, with an established contacts in the shipping sector (e.g., via LinkedIn or associations like BIMCO).

• Proficiency in market analysis tools and CRM software for lead management.

• Effective communication and presentation skills in English; additional languages (e.g., Romanian) advantageous.

• Ability to travel for client meetings and industry events.


Preferred Attributes:

• Experience as a technical superintendent or in similar roles to credibly discuss technical services.

• Knowledge of emerging trends like sustainable shipping and digital fleet management.
