Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Feasibility & Drawing Analysis

• Review part drawings received from OEM/Tier 1 for manufacturability (DFM) and raise queries before development
• Analyze GD&T, weld symbols, critical-to-function features, tolerance stack-ups, and special characteristics
• Participate in customer DRCs, DAPs, and feasibility review meetings
• Identify requirements for

  progressive vs. compound vs. draw tooling

2. Tooling Strategy, Design, and Execution

• Finalize tooling concepts with internal tool room and external toolmakers
• Approve 2D/3D tool designs, strip layouts, die sets, and material flow simulation
• Plan die construction timelines and ensure trial readiness before customer milestones
• Review and validate jigs, fixtures, welding gauges, and checking fixtures

3. Trial Management & Sample Approval

• Manage internal and customer tool trials (T0, T1, T2…) for:
• Dimensional correctness
• Weld strength
• Visual standards
• Part functionality
• Coordinate measurement reports, inspection data (CMM/VMM), and share First Article Inspection (FAI) data
• Resolve issues from burrs, wrinkles, springback, hole position mismatch, etc., during tryout phase

4. APQP & PPAP Ownership

• Lead the NPD contribution to

  APQP

  milestones: Design Review, Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plan
• Prepare and submit

  PPAP documents

  as per customer-specific requirements (Level 3 or above)
• Ensure readiness for process capability studies, GRR studies, and sample approval audits

5. Customer Coordination & Technical Communication

• Maintain ongoing communication with OEM and Tier 1 engineers to provide:
• Project status updates
• Issue escalations with countermeasures
• Revised submission formats as needed
• Lead technical calls with purchasing and development teams from the customer side

6. Cross-Functional Team Collaboration

• Coordinate with:
• Tool room for die development progress
• Purchase for vendor tooling
• QA for in-process inspection validation
• Production for trial scheduling and feedback loop
• Manage BOM finalization, material grade decisions, and production readiness review

7. Team Leadership & Department Structuring

• Lead a team of NPD engineers, tool coordinators, project planners, and trial engineers
• Develop SOPs for feasibility submissions, timeline tracking, review reporting, and closure protocols
• Provide mentorship and set technical review cadence for high-speed development
