Job Summary The Lead – Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) is responsible for ensuring end-to-end compliance and implementation of IFFCO health, safety, and environmental practices in the Factory. This role demands strong technical and regulatory expertise to manage workplace safety, first aid preparedness, fire prevention and response, effluent treatment plant (ETP) operations, and compliance with statutory regulations, environmental laws including PCB (Pollution Control Board), EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) for brand owners/importers, and food-grade waste management. The role is critical in driving a culture of proactive risk mitigation, sustainability, and statutory adherence, while supporting operational continuity and audit readiness. The ideal candidate will have domain expertise in food processing regulatory frameworks, statutory reporting, and cross-functional stakeholder management. Roles & Responsibilities HSE Strategy, Culture & Compliance Understand, reflect, and practice IFFCO’s vision and values in daily operations and HSE leadership. Develop and implement HSE strategies, programs, and compliance mechanisms that support food industry operations and regulatory frameworks. Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety and environmental laws (e.g., Factories Act, PCB norms, EPR mandates). Safety, Fire Prevention & Risk Mitigation Conduct pre-operational risk assessments on work areas and processes; ensure preventive measures are in place. Lead and conduct emergency response drills regularly to maintain high preparedness for any crisis. Supervise regular inspection, testing, and maintenance of firefighting, safety, and emergency response equipment. Audit work executed under the "Safe Work Permit" system and ensure job safety compliance. Monitor and guide HSE controllers to execute continuous HSE audits. Provide structured HSE improvement proposals, highlighting non-conformances, proposed actions, and implementation timelines. Ensure that employees, contractors, and site visitors receive HSE inductions appropriate to their activities. Environmental Management & Compliance Oversee operations of ETP/STP, ensure adherence to Pollution Control Board (PCB) norms, and maintain consent documentation (CTO/CTE). Implement and report on EPR compliance for brand owners/importers, coordinate with authorized recyclers for packaging waste disposal. Drive site-level environmental sustainability efforts in water, energy, and waste management. Documentation, Reporting & Investigation Develop and maintain all required documentation, operational checklists, and reports in alignment with the HSE Management System. Coordinate and actively participate in investigations of accidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and CAPA tracking. Prepare monthly HSE performance dashboards and legal compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders. Training & Awareness Deliver periodic HSE training, safety talks, toolbox sessions, and ensure the competency of site safety responders. Conduct HSE orientation and safety inductions for employees, vendors, and contract workers. KPIs Point of equilibrium with zero injuries to people and zero damage to environment and properties and protecting environment and resources as well. Implementation of HSE procedures reduces the workplace hazards & via increases health promotion. Records of number of near-miss, unsafe condition and unsafe behavior reports Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) Number of Near-Miss Reports Logged per Month % of Safety Inductions Completed for New Joiners/Contractors % of “Permit to Work” Audits Conducted as per Plan Number of Fire Drills Conducted per Quarter % Readiness Score for Emergency Response Equipment (Fire Extinguishers, Alarms, Hydrants, etc.) % of Emergency Response Team Members Trained & Certified PCB Compliance Score (CTE/CTO Validity, Reporting, Sampling, etc.) % Adherence to ETP Discharge Norms % EPR Compliance (Packaging Waste Collection, Documentation & Reporting) % of Scheduled Environmental Audits Conducted (ISO 14001, PCB) % Compliance with HSE Documentation & Reporting Requirements % Closure of Internal/External Audit NCs (Non-Conformities) Within Due Date No. of Safety Training Hours Conducted per Employee per Year No. of Safety Observations and Improvement Suggestions per Employee per Month % Participation Rate in Monthly HSE Awareness Campaigns Work experience requirement 8–12 years of proven HSE experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, or process industries. Demonstrated knowledge of fire safety, ETP operations, PCB/EPR compliance, and incident management. Strong communication and leadership skills with hands-on experience in HSE audits, training, and cross-functional collaboration. Qualification Bachelors degree and Diploma in Industrial Safety (mandatory). Diploma in Environmental Sustainability or equivalent (preferred). Additional certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 14001/45001 Lead Auditor (desirable).
