Position Purpose

The Head EHS role is responsible for leading EHS activities (for e.g. EHS compliance monitoring & audits) across PI, defining EHS policies and guidelines to be adopted by site-teams and driving a uniform EHS culture across the organization. This role is also responsible for providing subject matter expertise and advise top management on EHS strategic issues, opportunities & threats and formulate strategies for mitigation in consultation with them. This role will also drive awareness & adoption of EHS best-practices in all departments and ensuring their adherence through auditory control.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Formulate EHS vision for the organization and align the same with business objectives
  • Lead the development & implementation of EHS strategy and plans, including resources, systems, timescales, financials and integrate within the organization's annual business plan and long term strategy
  • Lead EHS systems development throughout the PI organization at various operations sites to help in developing synergy in operations and a uniform EHS culture across the organization
  • Track all relevant EHS legislations and update the top management about the developments and its implications on the business
  • Maintain strong control over EHS practices followed at the site
  • Serve as the focal point of the organization for Customer’s EHS audits
  • Lead sustainability & risk mitigation initiatives
  • Bringing new technologies in the field of Environment to improve cost effectiveness/ efficiency of waste treatment
  • Monthly reporting to Board of Directors on the status of Legal Compliance and appraise the board of implications on the business
  • Track and update all relevant EHS legislation to update the Top Management about the developments and its implications on the business
  • Maintaining cordial relationships at GPCB HO/ CPCB /MOEF and visit the key officials regularly
  • Design system for transportation safety and put monitoring mechanism in place
  • Ensure compliance to all international EHS regulations concerning products of the company
  • Responsible for ESG framework, governance, and compliance wrt organizational objective.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS compliance monitoring and audits at in-house and out-sourcing sites that handle orders placed on the business, to ensure compliance to EHS policies
  • Plan and implement initiatives pertaining to system performance improvements related to EHS Assurance
  • Provide feedback on EHS audit related issues by leading discussions with customers, KAM and Operations teams
  • Establish and implement necessary communication strategy for the improvement and awareness of EHS issues across all departments
  • Obtain CCA, NOC, EC and their timely renewals
  • Regularize discrepancies (if any) in the existing permissions and achieves true legal compliant status
  • Establish safety requirements and inspection checklists
  • Guide the team in matters of process safety & risk analysis of complex chemicals
  • Explore and implement possibilities for implementation of CDM and to avail Carbon Credits
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place to meet statutory compliance and integrity of data and statements

  • Recommend initiatives for building requisite skills & competencies through focused professional development and capability building initiatives for the EHS Assurance function
  • Review workforce capacity gaps within the EHS Assurance function and ensure timely recruitment in alignment with Corporate HR policies
  • Actively sponsor, in conjunction with the Senior Management Team, the performance management process of the EHS Assurance team
  • Ensure stability & sustainability through a robust succession planning process to meet current & future staffing requirements in the EHS Assurance function
  • Recognize & reward excellent performers & affirm key contributions of employees toward the achievement of goals & objectives of the EHS Assurance function
  • Inspire & motivate employees through demonstrated commitment to PI’s values, vision & mission and exemplifying effective leadership, initiative and persistence needed to accomplish goals and objectives

Education Qualification

B. Tech. /B. E. Chemical. Post Graduate Qualification in Environment/ Pollution abatement preferred

Work Experience

20 – 25 years of experience in EHS department
