Role
Nielsen is seeking a talented and enthusiastic lawyer to join the Nielsen Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) Department as Senior Legal Counsel. This isa commercial legal role covering India and other markets in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. The role reports direct to the Head of Legal, APAC based inSingapore.The Senior Legal Counsel will work in a collaborative culture, at times in close coordination with other LCA members globally and play a critical role insafeguarding commercial interests while enabling business growth. As a key legal partner to Nielsen’s commercial sales, product, technology and otherNielsen teams, the role will entail advising on commercial and operational transactions and providing guidance on related compliance and regulatoryrequirements. The role offers the opportunity to engage in a rapidly evolving media landscape, on various commercial matters including complex high-impact agreements relating to data and information, licensing, and technology and involving networks/broadcasters, publishers, digital/social mediacompanies and data suppliers.The Senior Legal Counsel will also serve as a Nielsen Integrity Leader in India, supporting employees regarding compliance queries and functioning asa neutral third party to coordinate and help the cross-functional Nielsen teams who investigate integrity issues.The successful candidate will be a clear communicator and reliable problem solver who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment, combines rigorousanalysis with commercial acumen and offers practical solutions that accommodate business needs and legal risks.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Primary source of legal guidance for sales teams for a number of APAC markets including India as well as contributing to diverse above-
market/multi-market work in APAC, as assigned.
- Draft, review, negotiate and manage various commercial contracts including licenses, master services agreements, statements of work, data
evaluation/supplier agreements, technology services agreements, alliance/collaboration agreements, NDAs, etc.
- Provide legal support with an ability to understand, interpret and convey legal, business and technical concepts to provide opinions on legal risk
and ensure appropriate contractual terms and conditions.
- Provide practical and business-oriented legal advice and contract interpretation to internal teams/stakeholders at various levels.
- Develop and implement templates, playbooks, and best practices to help drive simplification initiatives, streamline contract processes and
enhance efficiency.
- Manage and resolve contract disputes and provide support for litigation matters, as needed.
- Deliver cost-effective handling of outside counsel.
- Assist in the development and delivery of legal training to internal stakeholders.
- Internal investigations related to actual or alleged compliance/integrity breaches and work with appropriate stakeholders to prevent recurrence and
enforce Nielsen’s compliance and integrity policies.
Qualifications
Qualified lawyer licensed to practice in India – LLB/JD/law degree with 7+ years’ post-qualification experience in commercial/ contractual law,ideally with exposure to media, data analytics, market research and/or technology practice at a recognized law firm and/or in-house (global/multi-national desirable). Demonstrated expertise in negotiating complex license agreements and other commercial contracts, ideally regarding media, data analytics,market research and/or technology. Familiarity with media, communications and connected devices and working in an international/cross-border environment are added advantages.
