Job Description – Manager / Head – Safety, Health, Environment & OperationsRole OverviewThe position is responsible for leading and managing Safety, Health, Environment (SHE), Operations, Administration, Project Management, and Cross-functional Coordination to ensure compliance, operational excellence, and organizational sustainability. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to build a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities1. SafetyDevelop and implement HIRAC, JSA, PSM, Emergency Preparedness Plans, SOPs, and Training Documents. Drive safety programs: Near Miss reporting, Unsafe Act/Condition reporting, Toolbox Talks, PTW, LOTO, Mock Drills, Tabletop Exercises, Monthly Safety Themes, and 5S. Conduct safety and refresher trainings: Mass Awareness, BBS, and role-based safety modules. Manage audits and inspections (Internal, External, Legal) ensuring full compliance. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning. Organize team-building and safety engagement events: Safety Week, Competitions, Celebrations, Quizzes, etc. Introduce innovative engagement initiatives: PSE, One-day Safety Officer, Cross Audits, HSE Index, Rewards & Recognition, etc. Implement engineering controls for safety improvements, modifications, and poka-yoke solutions. Conduct regular reviews with stakeholders to monitor safety performance. Manage safety cost budgets and monitoring. 2. EnvironmentDrive engineering upgrades and modifications for environmental compliance. Monitor and control environmental performance parameters within acceptable norms. Ensure upkeep of environmental systems and equipment (inspection, housekeeping, maintenance). Conduct awareness sessions and refresher trainings on environmental practices. Ensure strict legal and statutory compliance. 3. HealthImplement employee health monitoring programs (engineers, associates, contractors). Promote workplace health and wellbeing through proactive measures. 4. OperationsLead shutdown planning and execution with minimal downtime and safety compliance. 5. AdministrationMaintain documentation and MIS systems (logbooks, training records, business excellence, materials management). Develop and deliver technical training modules (3-day, 8-day, 30-day) and refresher programs for multi-skilling. Drive business excellence initiatives: QC Projects, Six Sigma, FMEA, Lean CTR, 5S, Green Belt. Support analysis, planning, and troubleshooting activities for operations. Develop talent pools through handholding, coaching, mentoring, and leadership programs. Build soft skills and leadership capabilities in teams (communication, conflict management, decision-making, motivation). Organize employee engagement activities: festivals, functions, sports, cultural events. Manage performance evaluation and structured feedback systems. Ensure effective materials, contracts, and cost management. Oversee audit management: ISO, Safety, Quality, TS, and Customer audits. Strengthen organization branding, culture, and policy implementation (ethics, values, workplace safety). Leverage digital tools (SAP PM, MS Office, Microsoft Project, Cloud Systems) for operations. 6. Project ManagementPrepare visionary project lists, prioritization, and identification. Lead end-to-end project execution: PRs, technical discussions, ordering, engineering, material receipt, fabrication, erection, commissioning, and handover. Coordinate with dedicated project teams for effective monitoring and completion. 7. CoordinationCollaborate with cross-functional teams: Production, QA/QC, R&D, Purchase, Contracts, Stores, Central Support Services, and Auditors. Manage demand-supply planning and grade production alignment. Coordinate with internal suppliers/customers and external clients to ensure seamless operations. Partner with central service providers (maintenance, machine shop, utilities, safety, fire, environment). Drive business excellence reviews and ISO audit compliance. Manage by-product handling and evacuation systems. Collaborate with finance, taxation, costing, and internal audit teams for business alignment. Skills & CompetenciesStrong expertise in Safety, Health, Environment, and Operations Management. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and audits. Proven experience in Six Sigma, Lean, QC tools, and continuous improvement practices. Excellent leadership, team building, coaching, and mentoring abilities. Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills. Effective communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in SAP PM, Microsoft Office, MS Project, and cloud-based tools. QualificationsBachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Engineering / Safety / Environment Management or related field. Certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, Six Sigma, or equivalent are desirable. 10+ years of relevant experience in industrial/manufacturing environments with leadership responsibilities.
