What We Do
At Azista Space Systems, we offer comprehensive design, development, manufacturing, testing, and qualification services for spaceborne equipment. Our innovative and integrated approach ensures that we deliver top-quality solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of our customers.
QA Mechanical Engineer
This role ensures the reliability, manufacturability, and flight readiness of mechanical subsystems and components across the product lifecycle, working closely with design, AIT, supply chain, and business development teams.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Quality Assurance & ECSS Compliance
- Implement, interpret, and enforce
ECSS mechanical standards
, including: - ECSS-Q-ST-20 (Quality Assurance)
- ECSS-Q-ST-30 (Mechanical Parts, Materials & Processes)
- ECSS-E-ST-32 (Structural Engineering)
- ECSS-Q-ST-70 (Workmanship)
- Review mechanical design documentation, including
engineering drawings, 3D models, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, BOMs
, etc., for compliance. - Ensure adherence to ECSS requirements across materials selection, finishing processes, structural integrity, and mechanical performance.
Manufacturing Oversight & Workmanship Validation
- Define inspection criteria for
machined parts, composite structures, mechanisms, fasteners, thermal hardware, brackets, enclosures, mounting interfaces
, and structural elements. - Perform
incoming inspection, in-process QA, and final acceptance
of mechanical parts and assemblies. - Validate workmanship per the ECSS-Q-ST-70 series (mechanical assembly, bonding, coating, surface treatments, adhesive processes).
- Ensure complete documentation for materials traceability, lot control, CoCs/CoAs, and fabrication records.
Environmental Testing & Verification
- Review and approve test plans and procedures for:
- Vibration testing (sine, random)
- Shock testing
- Thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing
- Thermal cycling
- Mechanical qualification & acceptance testing
- Ensure verification activities follow ECSS-E and ECSS-Q standards.
- Support and witness tests, review test data, and validate compliance against qualification requirements.
Supplier Quality, Audits & Process Qualification
- Audit mechanical manufacturing suppliers for ECSS compliance in machining, forming, bonding, composites, mechanisms, plating/coating, and structural assembly processes.
- Evaluate supplier capability, process maturity, and quality management systems.
- Approve mechanical process qualification reports, manufacturing control plans, and supplier-provided certificates.
- Conduct
make/buy assessments
, oversee NCR closure, and track supplier performance metrics.
Non-Conformance, RCA & Risk Management
- Lead
NCRs
, perform structured root-cause analysis
, and drive effective corrective & preventive actions (CAPA)
. - Assess risks related to mechanical design, manufacturing tolerances, materials behavior, or supplier processes.
- Support dependability and reliability assessments including DFMEA/PFMEA.
Documentation, Traceability & Cross-Functional Support
- Prepare and maintain QA documentation including:
- Mechanical QA plans
- Inspection reports
- Test verification documents
- Process qualification packages
- Compliance matrices
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
- Provide QA inputs for proposals, customer reviews, and ECSS compliance statements.
- Support configuration management ensuring
traceability of mechanical parts, documentation, materials, and processes
throughout production.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in
Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering
, or related discipline. 5+ years
of experience in mechanical QA for space or aerospace hardware. Mandatory:
Hands-on experience applying ECSS mechanical and environmental standards
on past space programs. - Strong expertise in mechanical inspection techniques, GD&T, structural verification, and materials/process QA.
- Familiarity with mechanical manufacturing processes (machining, coating, anodizing, bonding, composite layup).
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ESA, CNES, DLR, ASI, ISRO, or commercial spaceflight hardware.
- Understanding of ECSS structural analysis requirements and environmental test campaigns.
- Experience with mechanisms QA, actuators, deployment systems, or moving assemblies.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing QA and advanced materials qualification.
- Experience with PLM, ERP, NCR/CAPA systems, or configuration management tools.
Competencies
- High attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach.
- Ability to interpret complex mechanical documentation and enforce standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with cross-functional collaboration capability.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering and product development environment.
