Programme Lead – Clean Energy(Relevant sector / Preferred sector - Clean Energy and Clean Cooking)

About Programme

The position focuses on advancing clean energy and clean cooking initiatives within the broader context of energy access, climate resilience, and sustainability. The role will lead strategic programmes that address challenges associated with traditional energy practices, which contribute to health, gender, and environmental issues.

The Programme Lead will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and scaling innovative clean energy solutions—covering areas such as electric, solar energy, biofuels, hybrid clean energy, clean cooking and clean energy solution based models. The work aims to promote inclusive energy access, enhance health outcomes, empower women, and mitigate climate change impacts linked to household and community energy use.

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team, oversee end-to-end programme implementation, manage budgets and client billing, and ensure financial accountability across all levels of execution. The research and field evidence generated under this role will inform policies and contribute to the national and global dialogue on energy transition and sustainability.


About the Role/Position – Program Manager

The Programme Lead will oversee full-cycle programme management from conceptualization and stakeholder engagement to execution, monitoring, and financial closure. The candidate is expected to independently lead projects, manage cross-functional teams, and ensure the achievement of key deliverables and outcomes. The responsibilities would include but not limited to:


Research & Knowledge Resource Development


  • Conduct desk-based research and provide qualitative research inputs for business proposals and other strategic documents.
  • Develop research inputs for ongoing programs and project. Also track advancements in different sectors, clean cooking technologies, energy policies, and market trends, ensuring alignment with broader program goals.
  • Plan and conduct both one-to-one consultations and multi-stakeholder consultations also develop credible knowledge resources such as short/long reports, case studies, and blogs for publication and sharing with stakeholders.
  • Support and creation of agendas and notes for meetings, policy briefs, capacity building programs, workshops, and conferences, preparing minutes and ensuring dissemination of information.
  • Guide the analysis and interpretation of project data, ensuring that evidence-based decisions are made to optimize technology and interventions.


Programme Management & Reporting


  • Oversee programme operations across Pan-India and state-level implementations, ensuring strategic alignment and effective stakeholder coordination with policymakers, enterprises, funding agencies, partners, and service delivery teams.
  • Manage the full programme lifecycle — from proposal development to budgeting, costing, financial liability management, implementation, and scale-up — while ensuring compliance with donor/client requirements through transparent documentation and timely reporting.
  • Lead state-level teams and ground agencies, fostering strong team dynamics, collaboration, and high-quality project delivery.
  • Develop and monitor detailed activity plans, timelines, and resource allocation strategies, ensuring timely execution and adherence to project objectives.
  • Track, compile, and present progress updates, success stories, impact metrics, and periodic reports (weekly, monthly, annual) to internal and external stakeholders in both physical and virtual formats.


Who Should Apply?


  • 8–10 years of professional experience in clean energy, clean cooking, renewable energy access, sustainability, or related sectors.
  • At least 2 years of independent project/programme leadership, including team and budget management.
  • Postgraduate degree (MBA or equivalent) in Development Studies, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or related fields; Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, or relevant discipline.
  • Experience in team leadership, Pan-India/state-level programme implementation, and partnership management.
  • Proven expertise in programme budgeting, costing, financial oversight, and client billing.
  • Strong background in policy research, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning in the energy sector.
  • Prior experience in clean cooking, energy transition, or climate-focused programmes is preferred.


Key Skills & Competencies:


  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills for effective engagement with government, industry, international agencies, clients, and internal teams.
  • Ability to present complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences; experience authoring academic papers or technical reports is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities, with proven experience coordinating across teams and stakeholders.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently, delivering high-quality outputs.
  • Proficiency in SPSS, Excel, and PowerPoint, with experience handling and analyzing large datasets.
  • Experience developing project reports and presentations for industrial and academic audiences.
  • Strong networking skills, with the ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships in the clean cooking and energy sectors.
