Department

You will be part of Manufacturing Operation-India, Global Supply Chain, Cement who supports Capital and Service for Materials, Warehouse & Logistics. By joining this team, you will have the chance to work in an international environment involving different cultures and different challenges. This department works closely with both our internal and external customers to ensure FLSmidth equipment’s on time delivery and customer satisfaction. You will be located in the Arakkonam plant.

Role

The Manager – Procurement for Cement Services will lead and manage end-to-end procurement for the service / equipment business (spare parts, heavy equipment, fabrication, machining, E&I). The role will ensure best-in-class cost, delivery, quality, specification compliance and sustainability, while aligning with global procurement frameworks and local operational needs.

Your Responsibilities:

Strategic & Operational Procurement
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies (category sourcing, supplier segmentation, cost reduction, risk mitigation) for the service/cement equipment business.
  • Ensure alignment with global sourcing policies, local regulations and business unit requirements.
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives, value engineering input, total landed cost optimization including freight, duties, quality, lifecycle cost.
  • Conduct supplier market research, benchmarking, make-vs-buy analysis and supplier risk assessments.
Supplier & Contract Management
  • Identify, evaluate, select and develop suppliers (domestic & international) especially for heavy fabrication, castings, machining, E&I, spare parts.
  • Negotiate contracts and frame agreements to include delivery terms, quality standards, warranty, performance metrics, sustainability/ESG criteria.
  • Drive supplier performance management: monitor KPIs (Supplier In Full On Time – SIFOT, quality reject rates, lead times, cost variance), conduct periodic reviews and improvement plans.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, logistics/expediting to ensure specification adherence, inspection coordination, and delivery to sites or workshops.
Execution & Process-Management
  • Oversee purchase order release, management of PO acknowledgements, schedule follow-ups, progress tracking, change management of POs.
  • Ramp up processes for expediting, dispatch coordination, document control, vendor inspection, logistics to ensure timely delivery to site/workshop.
  • Drive procurement process improvements, standardization, automation
  • Prepare and present procurement status reports, spend analysis, cost saving realization, risk register, supplier development progress.
Team & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Manage the procurement team (if applicable), build capability, define KPIs, conduct performance reviews, succession planning.
  • Act as business partner with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Project/Service Delivery, Quality, Logistics, Finance) to align procurement priorities with business needs.
  • Work closely with global procurement/ sourcing governance to ensure compliance with group directives, category strategies, and group cost targets.
  • Promote culture of safety, sustainability, ethical sourcing, vendor code of conduct.

What You Bring

  • Strong experience in heavy fabrication, machining, casting, E&I, spare parts procurement is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience in contract negotiation, supplier development, category management, cost saving implementation.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP)
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, understand manufacturing processes, quality standards, and supplier manufacturing capabilities.
  • Strong planning, organizing, proactive follow-up, risk mitigation mindset.

Education Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Production) or Supply Chain / Business Administration.

Experience

10-15 years of progressive experience in procurement / sourcing in heavy industries (equipment manufacturing / capital goods / cement services) – for manager level.
