Head of COO Risk and Controls Management .
Role Purpose
We are currently seeking an individual to lead the FS&GEC COO Risk and Controls Management team, which is responsible for supporting Finance FS&GEC by covering Audit, Workforce Enablement, TPRO/BIRO, Regulatory Compliance and other on the global scale. The role-holder will also be responsible for the day-to-day engagement with FS&GEC leadership team members and their COOs, acting as a primary and/or escalation point of contact.
Principal Responsibilities
The role-holder has the overall responsibility for the effective leadership and management of the FS&GEC COO Risk and Controls team across Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore, the delivery of activities of the team and the interaction with senior stakeholders – FS&GEC leadership team members, their COOs, FS&GEC COO and CAO. Activities are divided into the below areas:
- The Audit team, responsible for the engagement with HSBC’s external auditors. Manage coordination, engagement with external auditors (statutory and non-statutory) and internal stakeholders, support GAC papers.
- The TPRO/BIRO team, which oversees third party and information risk management, owns procedures and controls inc. EUCs, executes Global and GSC TPRO/BIRO responsibilities in addition to Regulatory compliance and Segregation of Duties.
- The Workforce Enablement team which oversees Risk Culture, Snapshot, skills assessments, support COOs to embed people related initiatives, strengthens learning & development across FS&GEC, applies People Risk and Controls, write RCMM papers.
The Role Holder Will Need To
- Manage, lead and inspire the team and enable their activities.
- Evolve the team and its organisational design in alignment with the function’s strategic direction.
- Act as a key point of contact for senior stakeholders in FS&GEC; effectively manage key relationships with senior stakeholders, including FS&GEC leadership team members, their COOs, FS&GEC COO, CAO and others.
- Represent FS&GEC COO in local and global governance forums, as appropriate.
- Analyse and review processes, identifying automation and simplification opportunities and drive continuous improvement agenda.
- End to end process ownership for the FS&GEC COO Risk and Controls Management activities.

- Engage with leads and colleagues across all functions and entities to promote consistency and teamwork.
- Develop and understand existing processes and systems / data flows and the target end-state.
- Design and enable training on transformation – with a particular focus on developing commercial acumen and business partnering capabilities.
- Provide an escalation point for the resolution of issues and support the management of workloads to meet business critical deadlines.
Requirements
- Strategic mindset and experience in leadership positions managing complex requirements from senior stakeholders.
- Experience of operating in senior governance forums, handling auditors.
- Experience and understanding of Global Finance function.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate the team’s agenda in a simple manner to a global audience.
- Strong capability in risk management and assessment, execution and monitoring of global controls.
- Experience in writing high quality governance papers and presenting to senior leadership.
- Proven track record of driving re-engineering, process synergies and technology-based solutions.
- Ability to work under pressure, report to tight deadlines and deal effectively with issues as they arise.
- Effective team player, very collaborative, communicates status and issues on a regular basis.
- Ability to effectively manage the competing views and opinions of multiple senior stakeholders and ensure timely delivery.
- Strong people skills and a high degree of motivation and commitment.
- Experience in designing, implementing and validating the effectiveness of process controls.
- Commercial mindset with strong execution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniority and geographical location.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to frequent and multiple changes.
- Ability to deal with and analyse unstructured problems and queries and to question and challenge existing procedures.
