We seek a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our technology strategy, architecture, and product innovation from our Berlin headquarters (hybrid role with office attendance required). As CTO, you will take ownership of our technical vision and lead a lean team of engineers applying bleeding-edge AI to end-user problem solutions. This extremely hands-on leadership role requires expertise in AI, backend and frontend development, cloud architecture, and product management. You make rapid decisions to determine how much you plan and optimise for the long or short term. You ensure reasonably functional deliverables, everyday fixes, and enhancements are shipped at breakneck speed. Technology Leadership & Automation Architecture: Define and execute nbyula’s technical strategy, ensuring a scalable and secure infrastructure. You would figure out a plan for automation for big to small tasks that any internal or external stakeholders perform, with or without a human-in-the-loop. AI & Product Innovation: Oversee the AI development and integration (LLMs, synthetic media, voice cloning) to supercharge every aspect of the business and product. Backend Development: Drive development using AWS, Google Cloud & APIs, hosted and on-prem Frontier AI models using Node.js and Python as the primary development languages. Frontend Development: Lead the frontend team using Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, and ensure a seamless user experience. Deep Product and User behaviour understanding: Different stakeholders in the team want different things to be built and shipped, but should that be built, or should the deliverable be shipped with modified functionality and look and feel to better serve the purpose? You would collaborate with the product/growth/marketing team to translate business goals into scalable technical deliverables. Strong understanding of acquisition and qualification funnels led via product, virality loops, knowledge of marketing intelligence and business intelligence tools like GA, SemRush, Metabase, and Amplitude alternatives Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing engineering team, fostering a strong culture of innovation and execution. Security & Compliance: You would build the guardrails for reverse engineering, crawling and abuse prevention. You would develop systems and protocols to protect the users' data and the internal details of our intellectual property and product implementation. Operational Excellence: Optimise development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud performance monitoring. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO, product managers, and users to shape the product vision. Your Profile 7+ years in software development, including 3+ years in a leadership role (CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Tech). Proven experience building and scaling a marketplace or other B2C platforms. Experience with Serverless Architecture, and Container Orchestration Framework such as AWS Elastic Container Service Expertise in developing multimodal Large Language Model (LLM) applications, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and Voice Agents, utilising frameworks such as Google ADK, LangGraph, and Langchain. Rigorous evaluation of LLM performance is conducted through fine-tuning techniques, encompassing the creation of robust evaluation metrics and implementing reinforcement learning methodologies to enhance model accuracy. Strong backend expertise: Python (Django), TypeScript (NestJS), nginx, Docker, MongoDB, Postgres, Redis, OpenSearch Strong frontend experience: React, Tailwind CSS. Deep understanding of AWS architecture, cloud security, and CI/CD best practices. A strong technical proficiency in various DevOps tools, including Sentry, Prometheus, Grafana, Cloudwatch, and Jenkins, is required. Hands-on experience deploying and scaling web applications on the cloud using AWS ECS Cluster Auto Scaling (CAS) and Jenkins. Product management experience, working closely with cross-functional teams to align technology with business goals. Strong team leadership experience with a track record of hiring, mentoring, monitoring and evaluating engineers. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to execute and deliver quickly in a fast-paced environment. Fluency in English with an uncanny ability to articulate complex tasks in simple language and precise and effective business-to-technical translation.
