JOB DESCRIPTION (JD) – Business Analyst (Business Intelligence & Research)

Designation: Business Analyst – BI, Research & Strategy
1. Role Overview
The Business Analyst supports the leadership team by providing market intelligence, data-driven insights, industry research, competitor analysis, and preparation of sales presentations and strategic documents. This role strengthens decision-making and helps Octagon stay ahead in the tower crane and heavy equipment sector.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Market & Industry Research
Conduct research on infrastructure, industrial, metro, refinery, steel, power, and high-rise construction sectors.
Track upcoming projects, tenders, EPC contractors, and equipment demand trends.
Publish monthly and quarterly market intelligence reports.
B. Business Intelligence & Data Analysis
Analyze utilisation, rental rates, pricing benchmarks, and competitor offerings.
Maintain dashboards for sales pipeline, machine deployment, and pricing trends.
Support leadership with forecasting and strategic insights.
C. Competitor & Customer Intelligence
Track competitor fleet, pricing, newly purchased cranes, and site deployments.
Create detailed profiles of customers, EPC companies, rental firms, and suppliers.
Maintain a weekly update of industry developments.
D. Sales & Proposal Support
Prepare high-quality PowerPoint presentations, proposals, brochures, and product decks.
Support the sales team with customer research and pricing justification.
Prepare content for major sales meetings, exhibitions, and marketing documents.
E. Strategic Initiatives
Assist management in evaluating new business opportunities such as used crane procurement and technical comparisons.
Prepare feasibility reports and strategic briefs for new markets or product lines.
F. Internal Reporting & Documentation
Publish weekly MIS, competitor updates, and project pipeline trackers.
Maintain structured documentation for reports, PPTs, surveys, and market references.
Automate reporting formats to reduce manual work.
KEY RESULT AREAS (KRA)
1. Market Intelligence Delivery
Deliver four research reports per month.
Provide one monthly macro market report.
Maintain accuracy above 90 percent.
2. Lead & Opportunity Identification
Generate a minimum of 20 qualified leads per month through research.
Maintain the upcoming projects tracker with complete accuracy.
3. Competitor Tracking & Pricing Analysis
Provide weekly competitor updates.
Submit pricing benchmark reports every 15 days.
Track major competitors
4. Sales Support Efficiency
Deliver all proposals, PPTs, and sales documents on time.
Maintain zero escalations on quality.
Contribute to a measurable improvement in sales conversion through research and data support.
5. BI Reporting & Dashboard Management
Share daily and weekly MIS on time.
Ensure 100 percent accuracy in data reporting.
Automate entire process of company.
6. Strategic Support to Management
Submit two to three strategic briefs per month on procurement assessments or new opportunities.
Provide insights for major client meetings with L&T, JSPL, NTPC, BHEL, TATA Projects, and other key accounts.
7. Content & Documentation
Maintain an updated repository of all company decks, product sheets, and machinery specifications.
Publish two to three case studies per quarter based on completed projects.
Skills Required
Strong research and analytical skills.
Excellent command of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Strong written and verbal communication in English.
Understanding of B2B Infra, Construction or Plants.
Knowledge of pricing, tenders, and EPC ecosystem is an advantage.
Detail-oriented and structured working style.
Experience with CRM or BI dashboards is useful.
Preferred Background
Graduate or postgraduate in Engineering, Commerce, Analytics, or related fields.
Prior experience in construction equipment or EPC research preferred.
Freshers with strong analytical capability may also be considered.
