Business Analyst Derivatives Exchange

Role Summary

You will translate business goals into clear, testable requirements for a high-performance, secure, and compliant cryptocurrency exchange. You will map user and ops workflows, define scope and acceptance criteria, partner with engineering, product, compliance, and finance ops, and ensure releases deliver measurable value.

Responsibilities

1. Requirements and Discovery

Gather, document, and prioritise business and technical requirements for onboarding, KYC/AML, fiat deposits/withdrawals, trading (spot/derivatives as applicable), wallet operations, admin tools, and reporting.

Run stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process mapping (BPMN/UML). Convert findings into user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria.

1. Process and Data Modelling

Create end-to-end process flows for customer, finance, and compliance journeys.

Define data contracts and source-of-truth for users, balances, orders, trades, positions, ledger entries, and reports.

Maintain glossaries and traceability matrices (business requirement → user story → test case).

1. Backlog and Delivery Support

Own the product backlog structure and readiness. Write clear, testable stories with edge cases, NFRs, and data requirements.

Partner with engineering on API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), error states, and event payloads.

Support sprint ceremonies, change control, and scope alignment.

1. Compliance and Risk

Work with Compliance to capture KYC/AML policies, sanctions/PEP checks, case workflows, audit requirements, FIU-IND and tax report fields, and DPDP data protection obligations (consent, retention, deletion).

1. Trading and Market Data

Document order lifecycle, risk checks, margin/leverage modes, funding/fees, positions/P&L, instrument catalog rules, and market data subscriptions.

Define safeguards such as trading halts, maintenance modes, and error messaging.

1. UAT and Readiness

Prepare UAT plans, scenarios, and test data. Coordinate defect triage, sign-offs, and go/no-go inputs.

Author runbooks, SOPs, FAQs, and admin playbooks for operations.

1. Analytics and KPIs

Define funnels and KPIs: KYC completion, deposit success, time-to-first-trade, withdrawal success, support/ops SLAs.

Partner with data teams to instrument events and build dashboards.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 4–8 years as a Business Analyst or Product Analyst in fintech, capital markets, payments, or exchange-like systems
2. Proven experience turning complex workflows into testable requirements and release-ready stories
3. Familiarity with trading concepts (orders, positions, P&L, market data) or a strong willingness and ability to learn quickly
4. Comfortable reading APIs and schemas; can draft/validate request/response examples
5. Strong SQL/Excel skills for ad-hoc analysis, validation, and reconciliation
6. Excellent written and verbal communication; able to align engineers, compliance, and business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience at a crypto/digital asset exchange or brokerage (spot or derivatives)
2. Exposure to OMS/RMS, margin and liquidation flows, or FIX/WebSocket APIs
3. Knowledge of DPDP/data privacy practices and evidence requirements for audits
4. Experience defining BI dashboards and event taxonomies (Amplitude/Mixpanel/GA)

Skills and Competencies

2. Detail orientation with a bias for testability and measurable outcomes
3. Stakeholder management and negotiation; clear decision records and change control
4. Comfort with ambiguity; ability to de-risk edge cases and non-functional needs (latency, availability, scale)

2. Figma (or similar) for flow/wireframe review
3. Swagger/Postman for API review and testing
4. SQL (BigQuery/PSQL/MySQL), spreadsheets for analysis
5. Lucidchart/Draw.io for process/data diagrams
6. Tableau/Power BI/Looker for dashboards (nice to have)
