Vice President of Engineering

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and execute the long-term backend/platform architecture strategy aligned with business roadmap (e-commerce, order management, delivery logistics, warehouse/inventory systems, etc.).
• Architect large-scale, distributed, microservices-based backend systems (services for orders, inventory, delivery, user management, analytics, etc.) using Python and Django (or other Python frameworks where needed) — ensuring modularity, scalability and maintainability.
• Build, scale and lead backend / platform engineering teams across different domains (e-commerce, delivery & logistics, data, integrations, platform services).
• Mentor senior & mid-level and junior engineers; foster a culture of ownership, accountability, code quality, continuous learning and best practices.
• Define engineering processes, set team standards, ownership, workflows, and drive engineering excellence across the org.
• Work closely with product, operations, supply-chain, logistics, warehouse, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Ensure backend systems meet business needs — order volume, throughput, delivery timelines, real-time data sync, inventory management, customer experience, performance under load.
• Oversee releases, deployments, monitoring, incident management, post-deployment performance & reliability, and continuous improvement of services.
• Define and track technical & business metrics (system availability, latency, error rates, throughput, resource usage, cost efficiency).
• Manage platform roadmap, prioritize initiatives, balance new feature development vs maintenance/refactoring/tech-debt cleanup.
• Budgeting and resource planning for infrastructure, tooling, cloud costs, team growth.
• Ensure system architecture is scalable to support expansion — more cities, increased orders, more stores/franchise integration, last-mile & delivery logistics, real-time tracking etc.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience — with significant experience in backend development with Python / Django (or similar) and large-scale systems.
• Deep technical expertise: Python, Django (or related frameworks), REST API design, microservices architecture, database design (SQL/NoSQL), data modeling, scalable system design.
• Strong leadership, people management, mentoring, stakeholder communication & cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strategic mindset: ability to align engineering decisions with business goals, handle trade-offs (speed vs. quality vs. scale), plan long-term technical roadmap, manage technical debt.
