Brief introduction - Role Summary/Purpose:
The Moulding and Moulding Automation Team Leader is a hands-on, working leader responsible for overseeing the safety, quality, and efficiency of a production shift within the moulding department. This role has a particular focus on managing and troubleshooting automated systems, including robotic cells, vision systems, and other ancillary equipment. The Team Leader is a key driver of continuous improvement, working to optimize both manual and automated processes to meet and exceed production targets.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership and Management:
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of moulding operators and automation technicians on shift.
- Assign daily tasks and manage workflow to ensure production schedules are met.
- Conduct shift handovers, providing clear communication on production status, issues, and upcoming requirements.
- Provide feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and address disciplinary issues in accordance with company policy.
- Production and Quality Control:
- Ensure the production of high-quality products on time and in full, adhering to all quality standards.
- Monitor production metrics, including output, cycle times, and scrap rates, and take immediate action to address any deviations.
- Perform regular quality checks on products and work with the Quality Assurance team to resolve defects and conduct root cause analysis.
- Ensure all production documentation and reports are accurately completed.
- Automation and Technical Oversight:
- Act as the first point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with moulding machines and, most importantly, the integrated automation cells.
- Perform basic programming and adjustments on robots (e.g., sprue pickers, part handling robots) and other automation equipment.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance and Engineering teams to diagnose complex equipment failures and implement long-term solutions.
- Assist in the setup, testing, and validation of new moulds and automated equipment for new program launches.
- Process Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement projects on the shop floor, focusing on enhancing safety, reducing waste, and improving efficiency (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S).
- Identify and propose improvements to automation processes and equipment to increase productivity and reduce manual labor.
- Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for optimization.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations
- Lead safety initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Report and investigate all safety incidents and near misses, driving corrective and preventive actions.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with plastic or rubber injection molding.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience with industrial automation, including robotics, PLCs, and vision systems.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of moulding processes, machine operation, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of various plastic resins and their properties.
- Proficiency in setting up and adjusting moulding machines and ancillary equipment.
- Hands-on experience with automated systems, including basic programming and troubleshooting.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively lead a diverse team and interact with cross-functional departments (Maintenance, Quality, Engineering).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities to address complex technical and operational challenges.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick, data-driven decisions.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may be loud and have varying temperatures.
- Education:
- B.E (Mechanical/Electrical and Electronics/Polymer) with minimum 4 yrs. of experience Or D.M.E/D.E.E.E/CIPET with minimum 6 Years in Operation/ Production Department
