To support and oversee the end-to-end steel melting process operations, ensuring efficient production, process optimization, quality control, and adherence to safety and environmental standards. The Deputy Manager – Process plays a crucial role in improving steel yield, minimizing process deviations, and leading continuous improvement initiatives within the SMS.

Support - SMS - Process - SteelThe Deputy Manager – Steel Melting Shop (Process. is responsible for supervising and optimizing all technical and operational aspects of steel melting processes to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective steel production. This role involves direct oversight of melting operations, process control, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives in line with organizational goals.

Principal Accountabilities

Steel Melting Operations:Oversee day-to-day operations of the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF. / Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF. / Induction Furnace (IF.. Ensure adherence to standard process parameters for each heat cycle including charge preparation, tapping, and slag management. Coordinate with Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF., VD/VOD, and Continuous Casting operations to maintain smooth process flow. Process Control & Optimization:Monitor heat-wise data and control deviations in process parameters (temperature, composition, oxygen levels, etc... Ensure optimal usage of raw materials (scrap, DRI, ferroalloys, fluxes. to improve yield and reduce cost. Implement best practices to reduce energy consumption, electrode consumption, and melting time. Quality Assurance:Coordinate with Quality Control to ensure the chemical and physical quality of molten steel meets product specifications. Investigate and analyze causes of internal rejections and implement corrective/preventive actions. Safety & Compliance:Ensure strict adherence to safety norms and environmental regulations during melting and handling operations. Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and promote safe working practices on the shop floor. Team Management & Coordination:Supervise and guide shift engineers, supervisors, and operators. Coordinate with maintenance, electrical, refractory, and casting teams for smooth operation and issue resolution. Participate in manpower planning, skill development, and training initiatives. Reporting & Documentation:Maintain records of production, delays, breakdowns, and process deviations. Prepare daily/weekly/monthly performance reports and submit to department head. Use data analytics for decision-making and process improvement. Continuous Improvement:Drive lean manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and TPM initiatives. Participate in projects related to automation, digitalization, and predictive maintenance.
