Acting as the technical SME within a collaborative digital team, this role owns theme and app development, platform administration, and operational support while guiding stakeholders through discovery, solution design, and delivery. Over the next 1–2 years, the role will be pivotal in migrating remaining legacy stores to Shopify, ensuring scalable, secure, and performant solutions aligned with business objectives.
1.1.2 Key Responsibilities
Development & Enhancement
- Design, develop, and maintain custom Shopify Plus themes using Liquid, JSON Templates/Sections, HTML5, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6/TypeScript), and Shopify Theme 2.0 standards.
- Build and extend private or custom apps leveraging Shopify REST & GraphQL APIs, Shopify CLI, Webhooks, and Polaris/React.
- Implement Shopify Plus features—Scripts, Flow, Functions, B2B Company profiles, custom checkouts, and automated workflows—to support complex B2B pricing, ordering, and fulfilment requirements.
- Optimise storefront performance (Core Web Vitals, lazy-loading, code-splitting) and ensure responsive, accessible UX across devices.
- Integrate third-party services (ERP, PIM, payment gateways, shipping, analytics) via APIs and middleware in coordination with the business systems team and partners.
Operational Support & Platform Administration
- Provide Tier-2/3 support for day-to-day e-commerce operations—promotion setup, product data imports, content deployments, troubleshooting checkout issues, and liaising with Shopify Support.
- Maintain and monitor platform uptime, error tracking, and incident response using tools such as New Relic, GitHub Actions, Sentry, or equivalent.
- Manage Shopify Plus organisation settings, staff permissions, storefront domains, SSL certificates, and shop metafields.
Stakeholder Engagement & Business Analysis
- Lead requirements workshops with sales, marketing, product, and customer-service teams to translate business needs into epics, user stories, and technical solutions.
- Produce wireframes, solution options, and effort/impact assessments to assist stakeholders in prioritising enhancements.
- Communicate roadmaps, release notes, and training materials for non-technical users.
Data, Insights & Continuous Improvement
- Configure and maintain analytics (GA4, Shopify Reports, Tag Manager, Hotjar) to measure funnel performance and user behaviour.
- Track key KPIs (site speed, conversion rate, average order value, cart abandonment) and recommend data-driven improvements.
Security & Compliance
- Implement secure development practices, token management, and regular dependency patching.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain technical documentation—solution diagrams, theme/app repositories, coding standards, deployment runbooks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Shopify Certified Theme Developer or Shopify Plus Academy credentials advantageous.
- 3+ years developing on Shopify or Shopify Plus, including Liquid theme customisations and custom app creation.
- Proven background supporting live e-commerce operations in a B2B context (pricing rules, account hierarchies, large catalogues).
- Hands-on integration experience with ERP/OMS platforms and REST/GraphQL APIs.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, and agile delivery.
Key Competencies & Attributes
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and workshop-facilitation abilities with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Customer-centric mindset with an understanding of B2B e-commerce nuances.
- Ability to balance rapid iteration with platform stability and security.
- Continuous learner who keeps abreast of Shopify and broader e-commerce trends.
