Job Title: Substation Project Manager

Department: EPC – Transmission & Substation
Location: Project Site / Head Office
Reports To: Senior Management

Role Overview

We are hiring a Substation Project Manager who will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of high-voltage substation projects—from planning and design coordination through construction, testing, commissioning, and hand-over.
The role requires strong technical expertise in electrical systems, excellent project-management acumen, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

● Lead overall project execution for substations (132 kV, 220 kV, and above) — covering civil, mechanical, and electrical scope.

● Review and validate project designs, drawings, and technical specifications.

● Develop detailed project schedules and resource plans; monitor progress against milestones.

● Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless execution.

● Oversee site activities — civil works, equipment erection, cabling, testing, and commissioning.

● Liaise with clients, consultants, and statutory authorities for technical reviews, approvals, and inspections.

● Ensure adherence to technical standards (IS/IEC/IEEE), QA/QC procedures, and HSE norms.

● Manage project budgets, forecasts, billing schedules, and overall cost control.

● Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines.

● Lead and mentor site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to achieve performance targets.

● Prepare progress reports, project documentation, and ensure timely close-out and hand-over.

Maintain strong communication with the client and consultants, provide periodic progress updates, attend review meetings, and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Handle correspondence and official communication — draft technical and commercial letters, progress reports, and compliance documentation in line with utility and PSU standards.

Obtain and coordinate statutory permissions including right-of-way, land acquisition, and clearances from forest, environmental, and local authorities as applicable.

Qualifications & Experience

● Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent discipline.

● 8 – 15 years of experience in EPC project management, with direct exposure to high-voltage substation projects (132 kV and above).

● Proven ability to manage the full project lifecycle — from design and procurement coordination to commissioning.

Experience working with public utilities, state or central PSUs, and regulatory authorities is essential.

● Strong understanding of substation equipment: power transformers, switchgear, CT/VTs, busbars, protection & control, grounding, and auxiliary systems.

● Proficiency in project-management tools (MS Project / Primavera).

● Excellent knowledge of construction management, cost control, and contract administration.

● Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and vendor relationships.

● Familiarity with national grid codes, utility standards, and safety practices.

Skills & Attributes

● Strong leadership, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.

● Excellent written and verbal communication; adept at formal correspondence.

● Analytical mindset with attention to detail and quality.

● High sense of accountability and ownership.

● Ability to thrive under deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

● Project completion within approved schedule and budget.

● Zero major safety incidents.

● Client satisfaction / quality compliance score.

● Cost variance vs. baseline.

● Timely hand-over and documentation closure.
