We are seeking a seasoned AWS Architect with leadership and people-management experience. In this dual-capacity role, you will be responsible for designing and steering the cloud architecture strategy, driving execution, and managing a team of architects/engineers. You will act both as a technical visionary and as a manager who can mentor, coordinate, make trade-off decisions, and ensure delivery excellence. This role goes beyond technical excellence; it is about anchoring BOT’s venture-class GDC model for Caylent.
Roles & Responsibilities: Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Define, design, and validate scalable, secure, high-performance cloud architectures on AWS to meet business needs.
- Evaluate existing infrastructure, identify gaps, and propose improvements and migrations to AWS.
- Establish architectural standards, best practices, and guardrails (security, cost, availability, performance).
- Lead proof-of-concept (PoC) implementations, prototyping, and validate new AWS services for use.
- Oversee selection of tools, frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK).
- Review designs and code from your team; ensure consistency and adherence to architecture.
- Monitor architecture health (scalability, fault tolerance, cost optimization, security) and continuously iterate.
- Engage with stakeholders (product, business, operations, security) to translate high-level requirements into cloud solutions.
- Define, design, and validate scalable, secure, and high-performance AWS architectures aligned with business goals.
- Establish architectural standards, best practices, and guardrails (governance, security, performance, cost).
- Lead prototyping, proof of concepts, and evaluating new AWS services and tools for their migration-fit and architectural benefits.
Management & Team Leadership
- The leader will be both a technical visionary and a cultural steward, ensuring that India is not just an offshore hub, but a strategic extension of Caylent.
- As a leader, you will work as an anchor who will build the India Caylent GDC.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of cloud architects and engineers.
- Define team goals, performance metrics, and growth plans.
- Allocate resources, prioritize tasks/projects, manage timelines, and resolve dependencies or conflicts.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and architectural thinking.
- Conduct architecture reviews, technical governance, and design sign-off processes.
- Drive cross-team collaboration (DevOps, SRE, Security, Application teams) to align on cross-cutting concerns.
- Represent the team to leadership; provide status, risks, escalations, and roadmap input.
Operational Excellence & Governance
- Define cloud governance policies: IAM, resource tagging, cost controls, compliance, and security.
- Monitor and optimize the cost, utilization, and performance of AWS services.
- Set up logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability (CloudWatch, X-Ray, etc.).
- Build disaster recovery strategies, high-availability, backup/restore, and resilience patterns.
- Ensure security best practices: network design, encryption, least privilege, vulnerability scanning, compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI as relevant).
- Perform risk assessments, threat modeling, and architectural hardening.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategy
- Interact with senior leadership, product owners, and business stakeholders to align cloud strategy with business goals.
- Provide architectural direction and guidance across multiple projects or initiatives.
- Make trade-off decisions (usability, cost, performance, security) in ambiguous settings.
- Stay informed about AWS service updates & roadmap; assess how they can benefit your organization.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Extensive hands-on experience (8+ years) designing and implementing cloud solutions, especially on AWS.
- Proven experience in a leadership or technical management role (managing architects, engineers).
- Deep knowledge of AWS core services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, etc.).
- Experience in infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or similar).
- Strong understanding of security, networking, identity, and access management in AWS.
- Solid experience with automation, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to make technical decisions under ambiguity and trade-offs.
- AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).
- Experience in microservices, event-driven architectures, serverless, and containers.
- Experience with hybrid cloud, multi-cloud, or migration projects.
- Experience in compliance frameworks relevant to your domain (e.g., GDPR, PCI, HIPAA).
- Familiarity with performance tuning, cost-optimization, and monitoring/observability tooling.
- Experience in a start-up or fast-moving product environment.
- Published talks, blogs, or community contributions in the cloud/architecture domain.
- Consultancy/advisory experience.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts to support customers in different time zones.
