Overview of the programme
WHO India Country Office collaborates with the Government of India and relevant stakeholders within the framework of the collaborative Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS), to actively support the national nutrition priorities of addressing all forms of malnutrition. This includes addressing dietary risk factors for NCDs, undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. The SSA will provide techno-managerial support for these efforts, focusing on strengthening evidence-based programming and reporting for donor partners.
Underlying Values and Core Functions of WHO
WHO’s nutrition strategy is rooted in a mandate to reduce health disparities and ensure access to adequate nutrition for all, especially vulnerable populations such as women, children, and those in low-resource settings. Focus on undernutrition, anaemia, stunting, wasting, obesity, and related NCDs through technical support, guideline adaptation, and coordination with state and central agencies. Nutrition efforts are linked to achieving SDGs, recognizing the interdependence of nutrition with health, poverty, education, and gender equality.
Description of Duties:
Under the overall guidance of the Team Leader (NCD), and under the direct supervision of the National Professional Officer (Nutrition), the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities:
Education:
Essential: Master’s degree in Nutrition or MBBS or MPH from a recognized institution/university.
Desirable: Ph.D. in nutrition

Experience:
Essential: At least two (2) year of professional experience working at national and state level on development and implementation of nutrition related programs and operational research with demonstrated ability of liaising with various stakeholders for implementation of programmes.
Desirable: Thorough understanding of the related national and state policies, programs on health and nutrition. Working experience with donor agencies at the national and state level will be an advantage.
Language:
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and working knowledge of at least one other national language will be an asset.
Remuneration:
Monthly remuneration is INR 218,855 taxable as per Indian laws and the appointment will be through Special Services Agreement (SSA) extendable subject to satisfactory performance and continuing need for the function. S/he will be posted at New Delhi. The position may require some travel (can be upto 5 days in a month) to the states and districts.
