1. Role Summary

The Purchase Head is responsible for leading and managing the entire procurement function for a valve manufacturing company. This includes sourcing of raw materials (castings, forgings, bars), valve components, machining parts, bought-out items, consumables, and subcontracting services. The role ensures timely, cost-effective, and quality-compliant procurement to support smooth production and on-time delivery.


1.Role Summary

The Quality Head is responsible for leading the Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and Quality Management System (QMS) functions in a valve manufacturing environment. The role ensures strict compliance with API (API 6D / 600 / 598), ASME, ASTM, and ISO (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) standards. This position plays a critical role in product conformity, customer satisfaction, and maintaining certifications such as API monogram licenses and ISO accreditations.

2.Key Responsibilities

Quality Strategy & Compliance

  • Develop and execute the company's quality strategy to meet API and ISO requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with API monogram programs (API Q1 & API 6D product specifications).
  • Maintain certification for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other applicable standards.
  • Lead internal and external audits (API audits, ISO surveillance audits, customer audits).

Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Review and approve quality plans, inspection & test plans (ITPs), and manufacturing quality documents.
  • Ensure proper control of WPS, PQR, welder qualification records (WQT), and welding processes.
  • Approve vendor quality documents, raw material test certificates (MTC), traceability records, NDE procedures, and third-party inspection requirements.
  • Implement corrective and preventive action (CAPA) systems.

Quality Control (QC)

  • Oversee inspection activities for incoming materials, in-process stages, and final testing.
  • Ensure compliance with API 598 testing requirements: hydrotest, seat leak test, shell test, air test, fugitive emission test.
  • Monitor NDE activities—RT, UT, MPI, DPI—as per ASME and API requirements.
  • Ensure calibration of instruments, gauges, and pressure testing equipment.

API & ISO Documentation

  • Maintain QMS documentation such as Quality Manual, Procedures, Work Instructions, Forms, and Records.
  • Maintain Product Quality Plans, Design Dossiers, and Technical Files as per API standards.
  • Ensure strict documentation control for traceability, material identification, and heat number mapping.

Supplier Quality Management

  • Conduct supplier evaluation and re-evaluation audits and evaluate vendors for castings, forgings, machining, welding, coatings, and assembly components.
  • Review supplier corrective actions and drive improvements.
  • Monitor incoming material quality and NCR trends.

Customer Interaction & Compliance

  • Lead technical discussions with customers and third-party inspection agencies (TPI).
  • Resolve customer complaints through root cause analysis (RCA) and CAPA.
  • Support contract review and ensure customer-specific quality requirements are met.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor QA/QC engineers, inspectors, NDE technicians, and document controllers.
  • Ensure training on API, ISO, and QMS standards across the quality department.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.


3.Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Production Engineering.
  • Minimum 10–20 years of quality experience in valve manufacturing or heavy engineering.
  • Hands-on knowledge of API standards (API 6D, API 600, API 602, API 598).
  • Experience with API Q1 management system and ISO 9001:2015 QMS.
  • Strong understanding of ASME, ASTM material codes. EIL standards
  • Possessing NDE Level II certification (UT/RT/MPT/DPT).

 

4.Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical, auditing, and problem-solving skills (RCA, 8D, FMEA, 5 Why).
  • Excellent knowledge of testing, inspection, welding, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Proficiency in QMS documentation and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage customer complaints and third-party inspections effectively.
