Role Overview: We're looking for a Product Development Engineer with a strong foundation in sourcing and developing structural or mechanical assemblies. Ideal for someone experienced with large or load-bearing components, this role involves working on high-integrity designs while optimizing for cost, manufacturability, and performance. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with Manufacturers: Collaborate with vendors specializing in robust structural components to ensure product integrity. Translate functional requirements into manufacturable designs, particularly in areas requiring precision fabrication. Product Design & Prototyping: Assist in refining and developing product designs for manufacturability. Create prototypes and samples to evaluate form, fit, and function. Quality Control: Monitor product quality by establishing quality standards and processes. Conduct tests and inspections, report on findings, and collaborate with manufacturers to resolve any issues. Cost Optimization: Drive cost and quality optimizations through smart material selection and production methods. Market Research: Assist in gathering insights on market needs and consumer trends to inform product development. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of product specifications, changes, and manufacturing processes. Provide regular updates to the program manager and other stakeholders. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with marketing, supply chain, and other teams to ensure smooth product development processes and timely launches. Vendor Management: Help establish strong relationships with vendors and suppliers, ensuring reliable and consistent product delivery. Qualifications : Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field. Experience: 1-3 years in product development, preferably with experience working in consumer products. Experience in B2B sourcing and manufacturing is highly preferred but not mandatory. Technical Skills: Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) for product design and prototyping. Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with testing and quality assurance processes. Soft Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and with external partners. Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Bonus: Knowledge of D2C product development and scaling manufacturing internally is a plus.
