Job Summary
The Manager – Physician Billing RCM Operations is responsible for overseeing all operational, administrative, and project-related functions supporting Wave Online’s physician billing business unit in Kochi.
This role leads multispecialty RCM teams handling charge entry, payment posting, credentialing coordination, AR follow-up, denial management, and client communications. The Manager ensures operational excellence, client satisfaction, financial performance, and seamless execution of RCM workflows across the business unit.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Business Administration
- Direct day-to-day operations for multispecialty physician billing teams including charge entry, coding coordination, billing, payment posting, and AR follow-up.
- Oversee compensation planning, budgeting, expense management, and operational KPIs.
- Serve as point of escalation for complex billing, operational challenges, and payer issues.
- Maintain smooth facility operations and support for onsite/remote/hybrid workforce.
Physician Billing RCM Management
- Ensure accurate, timely processing of charges, payments, adjustments, and patient balances across various specialties (e.g., internal medicine, radiology, cardiology, ortho, urgent care, etc.).
- Oversee claim creation, clearinghouse rejections, payer edits, insurance verification, and credentialing coordination.
- Lead AR and denial management teams to improve recovery rates and reduce aging.
- Identify payer trends, compliance risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Client Management & Customer Experience
- Maintain strong communication with clients, resolving escalations and providing performance insights.
- Respond quickly to client inquiries, operational questions, and requests for information.
- Monitor client SLAs, revenue trends, AR performance, and service quality.
- Support onboarding of new physician groups and ensure smooth transitions into production.
Process Improvement & Scalability
- Implement process improvements to increase accuracy, reduce denials, and strengthen billing performance.
- Standardize physician billing workflows and documentation best practices.
- Optimize cross-team collaboration between coding, billing, AR, credentialing, and reporting teams.
- Scale workforce to support new accounts and high-volume specialties.
Project Management & Strategic Initiatives
- Lead cross-functional projects to enhance efficiency, compliance, and client outcomes.
- Collaborate with leadership on automation, reporting enhancements, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, CMS rules, and specialty-specific billing requirements.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Identify, recruit, and retain high-performing RCM talent.
- Set clear team and individual KPIs for accuracy, productivity, and turnaround time.
- Allocate workload to maximize skills and capacity of each team member.
- Deliver ongoing coaching, training, and performance development.
- Address performance issues promptly and professionally.
- Promote team spirit, recognition, and transparent communication on progress and expectations.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of
multispecialty physician billing
, CPT/HCPCS, modifiers, payer rules, and denial codes. - Experience managing charge entry, payment posting, credentialing workflows, and AR/denials for physician practices.
- Excellent client-handling, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze KPIs, financial performance, denial trends, payer reimbursement patterns, and operational data.
- Strong leadership, team management, and project execution capability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Completion of medical billing training or equivalent practical experience is required.
12+ years
relevant experience in medical billing/physician RCM (preferred).5+ years
hands-on billing experience including charge posting, payment posting, eligibility, and insurance follow-up. 4–7 years
leadership experience managing RCM teams (mandatory).- Exposure to multiple EHR/PM systems (Athena, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, Kareo, AdvancedMD, Epic, etc.) is a strong plus.
