How will you make an impact in this role?

This is a Manager, Controller role in IC & Opex COE team within Global Financial Operations in Record to Report controllership, India.

The position will be responsible for managing accounting for Operating Expenses for non-technology BU’s, colleague expenses including AIA accruals, LTIA accruals etc. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring control & compliance across Opex accounting processes in addition to driving Gen AI adoption.

Whilst the primary focus of the role is to maintain financial integrity through robust controls in the manual accounting space, ensuring policy compliance and driving improvement and automation in manual processes, the incumbent is also required to demonstrate strong control mindset and drive meaningful and actionable data insights.

In this position, the incumbent will have an extensive engagement with varied business groups including finance and non-finance teams and would require good understanding of US GAAP requirements. The incumbent is required to maintain a qualitative control environment and partner to enhance governance around the existing accounting processes along with standardization.

The incumbent would manage a diverse team of accounting subject matter experts and is required to create, develop, train, motivate and communicate with a diverse work force.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Efficient / Effective Accounting for critical areas as listed above
  • Ensure Financial Integrity
  • Ensure strong controls and compliance to be able to meet and exceed all audit, regulatory & SOX requirements
  • Drive E2E process efficiencies including MJE optimization, standardization and automation
  • Establish a strong culture to drive business insights
  • Eliminate waste / duplication
  • Manage stakeholder engagement and build relationships across wide spectrum of teams including LE Controllers, Segment Controllers, LFO Finance and business teams
  • Identify centralization opportunities and build COEs for processes within the remit of the team
  • Ensure continuous engagement in organization wide initiatives that impact any of the process as listed above

Skills & Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent with 8+ Years of Accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of Oracle and understanding of Accounting and other relevant policies and protocols
  •  Proven People leadership experience is a prerequisite
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to drive change and deliver results on multiple time sensitive projects.
  • Strong understanding of business fundamentals and financial statements of AXP
  • Ability to synthesize large data to create business insights and drive value
  • Strong Collaboration and outstanding ability to build and leverage relationships with key business partners
  • Exceptional problem solving, influencing and persuasion skills, process mindset and analytical skills along with ability to link with ‘big picture’ while having attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal). Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and working knowledge of BI Tools like OBIE.\
  • Ability to think innovatively and to pursue ideas with conviction.
