Job Description

Job Title: Import & Export Logistics Manager


Department: Logistics / Supply Chain

Reports To: Head – Logistics

Job location: Ahmedabad


Key Roles & Responsibilities:


1. International Logistics Management:

  • Oversee end-to-end import and export operations including documentation, freight, customs, and delivery.
  • Coordinate international shipments via air, sea, and land transport.
  • Select and negotiate with freight forwarders, CHA (Customs House Agents), shipping lines, and transporters.

2. Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and verify all necessary documents: commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, BL/AWB, shipping bills, and Bill of Entry.
  • Ensure full compliance with DGFT, Customs, FEMA, EXIM policies, and trade regulations.
  • Maintain proper records for audits and statutory requirements.

3. Customs Clearance & Coordination:

  • Liaise with customs authorities for timely clearance of import/export consignments.
  • Handle customs queries, duty structure, HS codes, and exemption benefits (like EPCG, MEIS, RoDTEP etc.).
  • Ensure zero demurrage or detention by efficient clearance planning.

4. Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Coordinate with suppliers, buyers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies.
  • Monitor service levels and performance of logistics partners.
  • Resolve disputes or delays in the supply chain.

5. Shipment Planning & Cost Optimization:

  • Plan and monitor inbound and outbound shipments to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Optimize freight cost through consolidation, mode selection, and route optimization.
  • Evaluate logistics KPIs – cost per shipment, lead time, transit time, etc.

6. Inventory & Warehouse Coordination:

  • Align with warehouse teams for timely goods receipt and dispatch.
  • Track movement of bonded, duty-paid, and duty-exempt materials.
  • Ensure correct physical and system stock status of import/export goods.

7. Risk Management & Insurance:

  • Manage cargo insurance, claims, and documentation in case of loss/damage.
  • Proactively address international trade risks (currency fluctuations, sanctions, delays).

8. Reporting & MIS:

  • Maintain reports on shipment status, delays, freight costs, duty paid, and compliance.
  • Provide logistics cost analysis to finance and management teams.
  • Maintain monthly MIS on exports/imports performance and pending clearances.


Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in International Business, Supply Chain, or Logistics.
  • 10-15 years of experience in import/export operations, preferably in manufacturing, capital goods, or trading industries.
  • Strong knowledge of EXIM policies, INCO terms, HS Codes, and customs procedures.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and freight tracking platforms.
  • Excellent coordination, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferable from capital equipment manufacturing industries.
