Job Description: Assistant Manager – Human Resources (Training & Operations Development)

Position Title: Assistant Manager – HR

Department: Human Resources & Training

Location: Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram

Industry: Water Sports Adventure Company & Academy

Role Overview

The Assistant Manager – HR will play a key role in developing mid-level managers, strengthening the workforce pipeline, and supporting the expansion of new adventure sports project opportunities. The role also focuses on stabilising and optimising current operations by enhancing people capability, improving training processes, and ensuring a performance-driven culture.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Mid-Level Manager Development

* Identify competency gaps in existing supervisors, trainers, and operations leads.

* Design and implement development programs (technical, leadership & behavioural).

* Coordinate certification programs specific to water sports, adventure tourism, safety and rescue skills.

* Build a structured Management Development Framework for internal promotions.

* Facilitate leadership workshops, performance coaching and skill-upgradation sessions.

2. HR Strategy for New Project Opportunities

* Assess manpower needs for upcoming Projects /sites expansions.

* Develop hiring, onboarding, and training plans aligned with projected project timelines.

* Liaise with operations teams for resource allocation, job mapping and organization structure design.

* Support in creating SOPs and training modules for new locations.

3. Operations & Workforce Stabilisation

* Monitor staffing levels, team performance and skill readiness across current project sites.

* Implement shift planning, productivity tracking and cross-training practices.

* Ensure compliance with safety standards, certification requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

* Drive employee engagement, grievance resolution and retention programs tailored to operations teams.

4. Training & Capability Building

* Develop role-specific training calendars for instructors, lifeguards, hospitality staff and academy trainers.

* Work with internal/external experts to drive continuous learning around safety, rescue, first-aid, customer service, equipment handling, etc.

* Maintain a competency matrix and track progression of academy participants and staff.

5. HR Operations Support

* Support end-to-end HR activities: recruitment, induction, appraisal cycles, documentation and MIS.

* Coordinate performance review processes for mid-level managers.

* Support formulation and implementation of HR policies aligned with adventure sports industry standards.

Secondary Responsibilities

* Assist in employer branding efforts, campus outreach and skill academy partnerships.

* Plan team-building programs, CSR initiatives and culture-building activities.

* Handle vendor management related to training, safety agencies, certifications and consultants.

* Maintain HR data dashboards, training metrics and analytics for leadership review.

* Support digital HR initiatives (HRMS, training management system, competency tracking tools).

Required Qualifications & Experience

Academic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Tourism, or related field.

Preferred: MBA / PGDM in Human Resources, Learning & Development, or Organizational Development.

Experience

Minimum 4–6 years of experience in HR, L&D, or operations HR roles.

Experience in hospitality, adventure tourism, sports training, skill development centres, or similar people-intensive industries is highly preferred.

Proven experience in training program development, competency building and operational HR.

Key Skills & Competencies

* Strong understanding of training needs analysis and competency frameworks.

* Ability to manage multi-location teams and field-based operations.

* Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.

* Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance in adventure activities (preferred).

* Analytical ability to monitor productivity, staffing efficiency, and performance matrices.

* Adaptability, problem-solving, and a proactive approach to operational challenges.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹350,000.00 - ₹400,000.00 per year
